Why does Skin Collagen Support not contain any collagen?
As skin researchers, our goal is to make ‘healthy’ collagen. There are a variety of nutrients which support the body to make skin collagen from the collagen we consume in the form of protein from our diet.
When you eat/drink collagen (from any protein source), it just breaks down into the basic building blocks that the body needs called amino acids (small proteins). These components need to be reassembled to supply the body structures including muscles, joints and skin. In order for the amino acids to be reassembled into collagen, the body uses co factors which are vitamins, in particular vitamins A and C. These vitamins help us to make ‘healthy’ collagen from amino acids. Typically, we do eat enough protein in our diets to provide amino acids but sometimes we may not have enough of the co-factors to help convert them.
