Strategies and Support that Helped Temple Skincare & Spa through Lockdown

Strategies and Support that Helped Temple Skincare & Spa through Lockdown

Post-pandemic, we reflect on the strategies and support that helped Temple Skincare & Spa through lockdown.  At Temple Skincare & Spa, we celebrated our 19th business anniversary in March this year, and how grateful to say it was quite different to 2020, when we had only just launched our Temple Birthday Calendar and promotions, only to enter into lockdown for an unknown period (at that time).

Initially when COIVD 19 struck, after accepting the reality of it all, we kept our heads above water with some self-care and humour. Our Temple Family (Clients) loved hearing from us regularly and it gave them (and our Team) a sense of normality to stay in touch with each other. There is nothing more powerful than human connection and our clients value the authenticity and sincere relationships we have with them.

Posts samples lockdown 2020

Amidst deflecting with a little humour, behind the scenes we took things very seriously and the very next day after the lockdown announcement, the team and I got to work preparing bespoke at home treatment kits with support material for our clients. Our suppliers like Professional Beauty Solutions and Germaine de Capuccini were wonderful and right there to support us from the word go. We did what we do best and a week later we were ready to launch Temple Online Skin Support.

Lockdown was not all bad, it gave rise to our online video skin consultations, which is still in popular demand and it’s so convenient to have a live chat with an experienced skin expert who can have your skincare routine and treatment plan all ready to go, within 30 minutes.

Another lockdown hero is the Power Peel,  which featured when we all felt a little less than glowing and we were having withdrawals from missing out on our regular treatments, along came this powerhouse routine to give brightness, glow, and vitality. Then finally, the “How to…” video tutorials which were a crowd fav with our homecare DIY packs teaching our clients how to do Skin Rolling at home, how to do Rose Quartz lymphatic drainage, how to Power Peel and the list goes on!

Watch the DIY Skincare Tutorial videos here.

These are great booster routines but let me tell you in the words of our clients, nothing comes close to the actual experience of being on that bed, having the healing touch and expertise of therapists who know and love what they do. We are so happy to be back in full swing and while the future remains a mystery, we are grateful to be here with you and look forward to the journey ahead.

Necessity is the Mother of All Invention

The Temple Team took to social media with educational tutorials on their favourite DIY at home treatments and products. We created step by step instruction videos and cue cards for treatment steps, covering more than 10 at home protocols, ranging from Germaine de Capuccini Facials to Image Skincare Corrective Facials, Skin Needling, Callous Foot Peels and Lash & Brow services. Our goal was to continue to offer our clients access to expertise, great products, and the quality self-care service that they are accustomed to. One of the kits that performed particularly well and continues to be one of our best sellers is the at home Power Peel, designed to provide a multi-exfoliation experience and give the client a little taste of in-salon results at home within the safety of professional guidance.

Read more about how Temple continued to offer our clients access to expertise, great products, and the quality self-care service that they are accustomed to here.

We also hosted Skin School for our loyal teens, who received DIY skincare packs and attended our online program, this is an educational workshop we regularly host during the school holidays.  In addition, Temple’s clients were provided with access to online consultations via Zoom and that way we were able to assess their skincare needs and make recommendations accordingly. This was accompanied by free home delivery for anyone in the Hills District, Sydney.

It Takes a Team, Supportive Suppliers and Loyal Clients to Survive a Storm Like Covid-19

The Road Ahead

We can all agree that COVID 19 has forever changed the face of the Beauty Industry on so many levels and the idea that the personal interaction with our clients which we love and value as therapists could be taken away at any moment, makes one so much more grateful to be back in business and operating as usual.

Don’t Miss Out

Temple always has our family of clients in mind when creating beautiful offers that focus on what they need and on seeing results.  Follow us on Facebook and on the Temple Instagram account so you’ll never miss any of our fabulous offers and new treatments. Join us in our Temple Family Facebook Group too where we talk about skin and more!

19 Years of Temple Skincare & Spa

19 Years of Temple Skincare & Spa bringing you the world’s leading technology in beauty spa and medispa treatments. It’s time to celebrate!

It takes a village, a tribe, to keep a business alive through 19 years of Temple Skincare & Spa. The ones like last year’s Covid-19 pandemic was one that no one ever saw coming. Yet with the support and love from our Temple Family of clients and friends, Temple quickly pivoted and continued to bring you our signature care and passion for skincare and results you deserve. It is impossible to not be a little teary writing these words, reflecting briefly on what might have been if it were not for the amazing Temple Family and Temple Team of Therapists have helped cultivate over the years. Our hearts are forever filled with  gratitude for your love and loyalty.

To every client who was personally affected by the pandemic, or who has loved ones, friends, and family who may have been affected, you are continually in our thoughts. While things don’t just get better right away, with time, each day gets a little better. You have Temple as a peaceful and safe sanctuary to rest and heal.

Inspiration and Innovation

As turbulent as last year was, it taught us so much more about how we can better provide exceptional service and skincare that will continue to WOW. Most of all 2020 was a stark reminder to us all about how fragile and precious life is and that in the busyness of it all, it is so easy to lose sight of things like self-care, which is not limited to just time for yourself, but also time to do the things you love like family outings, sit down dinners, walks in nature and whatever feeds your soul.

We love staying in touch with you through our Virtual Consultations, where our Skin Experts give advice and write a custom Skin Treatments and Care Plan specifically for your skin. Hello to a New Way to Glow

Another lockdown hero is the Power Peel,  which featured when we all felt a little less than glowy and were having withdrawals from not having our regular treatments. Along came this powerhouse routine to give brightness, glow, and vitality. The Temple Power Peel Kit is the perfect solution to sloughing off dead skin and promote a renewed, glowing complexion. The Power Peel Kit includes an AHA/BHA Mask that diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines; decreases the appearance of large pores; makes the skin look and feel firmer; and, improves dull, uneven skin tone. Secondly, there’s the AGELESS Total Resurfacing Masque that maximizes exfoliation while minimizing the appearance of dark spots. Then, the VITAL C Hydrating Enzyme Masque which acts as a resurfacing agent for the redness- and rosacea-prone skin.

Video Tutorials for At Home Treatments

Then last but not least,  the “How to…” video tutorials were a crowd fave together with our homecare DIY packs teaching you how to do Skin Rolling at home, how to do Rose Quartz lymphatic drainage, how to Power Peel and the list goes on!

These are great booster routines, but let me tell you in the words of our clients, nothing comes close to the actual experience of being on that bed, having the healing touch and expertise of Temple Therapists who know and love what they do.

We are so happy to be back in full swing, grateful and looking forward to an exciting journey ahead.

This year we celebrate Temple’s Birthday Anniversary with 19 promotions hand-picked just for you and we have added a few new and exciting treatments to our MediSpa Face Menu such as the Microhydra Lift, and Fountain of Youth Facial for radiance. Lymphatic Drainage, Let’s Get Wrapped!

February 24, 2021

lymphatic drainage results

Lymphatic Drainage is a must to add into your wellness routine.

The Lymphatic System is part of your immune system and protects your body from illness-causing invaders, maintaining body fluid levels, absorbing digestive tract fats and removing cellular waste. Approximately 56% of the body’s fluid is lymph and it takes 24 to 48 hours to pass through the liver, thereafter it leaves the body through the eliminatory system when you go to the loo.

Benefits to Lymphatic Drainage include:

  • Fight off infection
  • Speed up healing and recovery from the cold and flu
  • Reduce water retention
  • Boost weight loss
  • Improve cellulite, skin swelling, scar tissue, acne, and stretch marks
  • Reduce stress and fatigue
  • Help with post exercise recovery

Click here to book a Dr Wraps Herbal Treatment and Lymphatic Drainage.

Two ways to encourage Lymphatic Drainage covered here are:

  • Hydration
  • Detox wraps (Dr Wraps)

Hydration

It is no small wonder that water is often termed “the essence of life”. We know that humans can survive about 3 weeks without food, but only days without water. We also know that the human body is made up of 70% water and that we have an intricate navigation and waste removal system.  The lymphatic system is dedicated to channel the water through our body and flush out harmful waste from our cells and organs. If you previously read our blog  “Is your Bra Making You Fat?” you will know that this amazing system is almost entirely reliant on water intake and movement.

Why is it then that we wait until we are thirsty before we drink water? If you’re prone to waiting until you’re thirsty, it is purely a matter of establishing a new habit to replenish lost fluids throughout the day instead of waiting until thirst strikes. Waiting until you are thirsty means that your body has already started to dehydrate, and thirst is the first warning sign, next one might experience dry mouth, lips, and eyes, followed by dizzy spells and feeling tired or irritable.

One may also be prone to light-headedness and confusing thirst with hunger is quite common too since the body will try to get hydration by telling you to eat so that your incredible digestive system can extract whatever fluids possible from the food to hydrate your cells and organs. If your urine has a strong odour or if you do not need to wee at least 4 x per day, your body is almost certainly dehydrated.

Hydration

Internal dehydration is often visible on the skin as, sunken eyes, dark under-eye circles, increased wrinkled appearance, and lack of vitality in the skin. Lack of hydration can impact sleep patterns, cause constipation, and as if we need more motivation to drink water, here it comes! Lack of hydration can result in muscle fatigue, poor athletic performance, and sore stiff muscles post-workout, not to mention the strain on organs which can potentially lead to severe long-term damage.

For a minute, I want you to imagine a dry riverbed, no water running through it. Just a dry muddy riverbed with debris and sludge stuck on the sidewalls, now that is pretty much the lymphatic system of a dehydrated body. Next imagine water rushing through the riverbed, flushing away all that waste into the ocean, the cleansing, refreshing effect of moving water in nature applies to our bodies too.

So how much water is enough? A recommended guideline is to take your body weight, divide that by 10, and add 500 ml water to get the optimal number of 250 ml units you should consume in a day. For example, if you weigh 60 kg, that is 6 x 250 ml units which are equal to 1.5 liters, now add an extra 500 ml for good measure and that equals your optimal water intake per day, in this case, 2 liters of water per day or 8 x 250ml glasses of water.

It is not recommended that one should drink more than 3 liters of water per day, since consuming too much water can lower sodium levels, an important mineral in the body. When sodium is depleted, it may lead to a condition known as hyponatremia, which in turn could cause the body to retain too much water and this can be particularly harmful to the body and organs as well.

Supporting your Detox Journey at Temple

As with everything in life, moderation is key. At Temple Skincare & Spa, we are here to help you find the balance. If you find that you are battling with losing weight or reducing cellulite, start with your water intake. Most of the high-tech MediSpa treatments we offer, provide the most dramatic results when the body is well hydrated.

For example, our skin-toning Radio Frequency, Ultrasound Body Smoothing for Cellulite , and HIFU Body Lift Treatments all rely on the body to be well hydrated to effectively rejuvenate sluggish collagen as well as break down and eliminate fat pockets and stubborn areas. Services like Fat Freeze or Cyrolipolysis as it is often referred to also rely on water intake post-treatment to aid the lymphatic system and the body to dispose of the fat cells which are targeted during the treatment.

We provide additional support for the lymphatic system to aid the waste removal or detox process with the pneumatic air compression system, Dr. Wraps, which can be further enhanced with a herbal wrap system targeted to either drainage, cellulite reduction or fat-burning. Sometimes the body’s waste removal system needs a little extra help too and that’s where advanced body wraps come in.

Dr Wraps

Using a powerful blend of herbs that help to increase circulation,  facilitate lymphatic drainage, and break down fatty deposits the DR Wraps System offers outstanding detox results with the addition of pneumatic air compression massage.

There are many forms of detox wraps, some based on seaweed and others on mineral absorption through clay applied to the skin and while these detox wraps all have some benefits to offer, the most effective kind are those that offer lymphatic drainage alongside the wrap component.

The Dr Wraps system we use at Temple Skincare & Spa uses localised bandages laced with a potent blend of botanic extracts to form part of a complete program that takes place over 4 weeks, with a minimum of 2 treatments per week. Enjoy a luxurious 60-minute treatment, that feels more like a massage than hard work!

Some of the benefits reported by our clients are :

  • Reduced bloatedness
  • Inch reduction
  • Reduced fluid retention
  • Improved appearance and texture of the skin
  • Improved athletic performance
  • Weight loss plateau is broken
  • Muscle relaxation
  • An overall sense of wellbeing

  4. Excess Alcohol
  5. Excess Carbohydrates
  6. Lack of Sleep
  7. Lack of Exercise

How do I get rid of dark spots on my face?

October 16, 2020

Published: October 2020, Updated: August 2026

What causes dark spots on my face to appear?

Many of you come to Temple Skincare & Spa and ask us about getting rid of dark spots and patches on your skin. While it is completely harmless, there those who lose confidence over the irregular pigmentation. To understand how to treat hyperpigmentation, let’s look at what causes it:

  • UV Damage
  • Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
  • Age Spots (or Liver Spots)
  • Melasma/Chloasma

UV and Sun Damage

Overexposure to UV  causes sun damage because it over-stimulates the melanocytes, causing hyperpigmentation. This can then lead to a discolouration of the skin where dark spots or patches can be seen on the skin. This more commonly occurs in people over 40 years of age.

Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) happens on skin that has experienced an inflammatory wound that may have been caused by acne, or a response to an
inflammation in the area which causes increased pigment production.

Age Spots (or Liver Spots)

This is fairly common with age and from exposure to the sun or pollution. Stressors such as UV light and air pollution accelerate the ageing of the skin cells, causing the production of melanin. Many say this form of hyperpigmentation is a tell-tale sign of age, but now you can treat it effectively.

Melasma/Chloasma

Melasma, also called chloasma, is often triggered by hormonal changes commonly seen after a pregnancy or the use of some medications. Common characteristics of this condition include a brown symmetrical pattern most commonly seen on the cheeks, spreading across through the temples and forehead.

NEW! Goodbye Dark Patches! Chloasma and Melasma Depigmentation Programme at Temple Skincare & Spa

Published: October 2020, Updated: August 2026

cosmelan® depigmentation treatment is the world’s leading method for Chloasma and Melasma. And, it’s now available at Temple Skincare & Spa!

Temple’s new treatment for dark patches depigmentation is a highly effective Chloasma and Melasma treatment used by many esteemed Medical and Spa Professionals worldwide. cosmelan® Depigmentation helps to reverse unwanted dark patches on the skin known hyperpigmentation and this treatment is especially effective on the most stubborn hyperpigmentation known as Melasma and Chloasma.

Hyperpigmentation concerns are a growing, global issue; they affect more than 90% of adults over the age of 50. It is caused by abnormal production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color, and is a consequence of uncontrolled, localized overproduction of melanin by the melanocytes, causing irregular skin coloration and dark spots.

Read more about what causes dark patches on the skin.

There is a two-step in-clinic process and a homecare routine that must be followed strictly over a period of 12 weeks. This is followed by a homecare maintenance program over the duration of a minimum of 6 months, but preferably 12 months to lock in the results.

Above and below, Temple Clients at the end of 12-week treatment.

What to expect before starting the program:

  1. During a Visia Skin Scan, your MediSpa Therapist will provide a thorough skin diagnostic and confirm if you are a candidate for the cosmelan® Depigmentation Treatment.
  2. You will be provided with a consultation form explaining all the ins and outs as to what you are required to do throughout the program.
  3. You should stop using all glycolic and retinol products at least 1 week before the scheduled Peel to avoid over sensitising the skin
  4. Although your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and prepped before your treatment, we recommend that you arrive for your appointment without make up to ensure the best penetration of the active ingredients.

Start your cosmelan® Depigmentation Programme Now with a Specialist Consult.

What does the cosmelan® dark patches depigmentation treatment involve?

  1. Your therapist will cleanse the skin and prepare it with a PH regulator and degreasing solution before applying a thick, clay like mask which contains a blend of Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Arbutin and Titanium Dioxide. These are all naturally derived acids which work together to  reverse hyperpigmentation. You may experience medium to high leels of tingling on the skin, redness and swelling during and after the procedure, but
the stinging will reduce substantially before you leave the clinic. The Factor K cream will be your best friend to soothe and calm the skin over the next few weeks, as it relieves the red, itchy skin and supports the skin’s recovery.
  2. The mask remains on the skin for 8 to 12 hours depending on your skin type and must be kept damp throughout, until removal with a gentle cleanser. All you have to do now is to apply the Homecare Cream with Factor K twice daily to maintain and to continue to improve the results achieved by the In-Clinic Treatment, also preventing the occurrence of new brown spots or hyperpigmentation. The homecare cream should be used for a minimum of 6 months,
but preferable for a duration of 12 months after the Peel.
  3. Visit the spa 3 days later for a healing cleanse, LED Light and Recovery Sheet Mask to kickstart the healing phase.
  4. Your therapist will schedule 3 more recovery LED Lights for you and we highly recommend having the Energy C Facial, 4 weeks post peel to restore the hydrolipidic layer of the skin.
  5. Your therapist will give you clear instructions to follow, but it is best to plan your Depigmentation treatment in the morning to avoid excess sun exposure and for managing the task of keeping the product damp until removal, otherwise you will be up all night. It is best to schedule the Peel for a day when you can stay at home.
  6. Peeling, flaking, sensitivity, redness and swelling generally only lasts 5 days, but if your body heals slowly under normal circumstances then it could take up to 8 days for all the flaking to pass. The most important thing is NEVER to pull, tug or encourage peeling skin to shed. Let it slough off naturally, otherwise you may cause hyperpigmentation all over again.

What to expect during and after the Chloasma or Melasma Depigmentation Treatment

During the application, your skin will feel warm, which some find mildly uncomfortable but completely bearable and your therapist will provide a fan to help cool your skin. Day 1 the skin is tight, red, and slightly swollen. Day 2 your skin will be red, slightly itchy, and irritated, as can be expected. Day 3 the flaking will start and concludes approximately on day 5. The discomfort is minor compared to the results. You may use a BB or a CC cream from day 5 if you want to cover up the visible redness and remember to wear sunscreen every day to protect the new skin.

In most cases clients report up to 95% reduction of hyperpigmentation in the skin. A continued reduction in the skin’s pigment may be seen with daily application of  the home care cream.

Learn more about how Temple can help you achieve your Temple Skin Goals with answers and tips for the most commonly asked questions we get from you:

How often should I be having a facial?

Well the answer depends on what you would like to achieve with your skin. If we are correcting a skin condition or specific concern, then we generally need to see you more depending on the treatment modalities to correct the skin. However, if you would just like to maintain a healthy skin and of course, replenish the soul with some R&R then every 4-6 weeks is perfect. It needs to work with your time and budget.

Get in touch with us for a FREE Visia Skin Analysis, to discover what Temple Skin means to you. The Visia is a professional digital scan of your skin providing a look underneath the surface of what you see daily. Your therapist is then able to advise you on the best lifestyle, products, and treatments to achieve the results you deserve.

visia skin analysis temple skincare & spa

Temple also has  a variety of skincare products that guarantee results compared to your generic store-bought ones. These highly complement our skincare programmes and are perfect for the time in-between your visits to the spa. We highly recommend cleansers, moisturisers and serums from our friends at IMAGE Skincare and Germaine de Capuccini. If you don’t see what you’re looking for or if you are a bit unsure of which one is best for you and your skin type? We’ll be very happy to assist and guide you on which ones your skin needs.

Why do I need a serum?

Out of everything you use on your skin at home, your cleanser and your serum would have to be the two most important products. Why? Because the serum is the one product guaranteed to bring about change to the condition of the skin if you are using a good quality one with high active ingredients. Professional serums come with many different active ingredients, and each active ingredient targets a different skin concern, so best to speak to your Temple Therapist to prescribe the best one for your skin concern.

One pro tip on using cleansers — do a double cleanse! By doing so, you remove impurities and dirt on the first cleanse and then with the second, you prepare the skin to absorb active ingredients that will totally nourish your skin.

As far as Getting the trademark Temple Skin, using the serums that we absolutely love like those with hyaluronic acid top our list. Hyaluronic acid  (HA) helps your skin look and feel more supple and youthful. HA is naturally occurring on your skin and serves to retain moisture and reduce dry skin. However, the natural aging process and exposure to things like ultraviolet radiation from the sun, tobacco smoke and pollution can dramatically reduce your skin’s natural HA.  When applied to the surface of the skin, hyaluronic acid serums can reduce wrinkles, redness and dermatitis.

If you want to read more about skincare products like serums and cleansers, this is a good blog article: You just don’t know what you don’t know… skincare mishap.

leave exfoliant in the shower

I exfoliate every few months, is this enough to achieve good Temple Skin?

NO is the short answer. When youth is on our side, our skin cells naturally regenerate (that is, they shed and new ones grow) every 28 days. Sadly, as we get older this process slows down A LOT… just another thing to hate about getting older (lols!). Due to the slowing of this natural process, we need to encourage the skin to shed the outermost surface cells, which is made up of dead flat keratinocytes. They do not reflect the light nicely, leaving our skin dull, lifeless and almost grey looking. By gently exfoliating the skin, we allow way for our nice juicy skin cells to be on the surface to leave the skin looking glowing.

What sort? There are loads of different types of exfoliants — chemical exfoliants, mechanical exfoliants and combined exfoliants. The different types are suitable for different types of skins, and this will also determine how often you need to exfoliate. As each skin is unique, it is always best to speak with your Temple Therapist about whether a gritty granular scrub, a gentle enzyme exfoliant or perhaps an AHA/BHA exfoliant is best for you.

For instance, skincare products with AHA or BHA can be your BFFs to keep your skin acne-free, ageless, glowing and healthy. AHAs can be used if you have skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, age spots, melasma, scars, or enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles and enlarged pores. On the other hand, BHAs address skin concerns like sun damage or acne. For the latter, one of the most popular and most effective BHAs we use is the Clear Cell Salicylic Clarifying Pads.

So how often is best??? This depends on many things so best to get professional advice from one of our Team, however as a general rule of thumb, 2-3 times a week is average as we get older. This will also stimulate the oil glands, to encourage the skin to naturally keep moist as long as you’re not using a stripping product. A common thing I hear is that clients simply forget to exfoliate.

Why do I have pigmentation?

If you lived in Australia for many years, chances are when you look in the mirror, you will see freckles or brown patchy marks. This is all called Hyperpigmentation.

What is happening on cellular level

Beneath the surface of our skin we have many cells and structures. One of these cells are called a melanocytes and these little things looks like an octopus with long dangly arms.  Hyperpigmentation is caused by an increase in melanin. Melanin is the natural pigment that gives our skin, hair and eyes their colour. A number of factors can trigger an increase in melanin production, but the main ones are sun exposure, hormonal influences, age and skin injuries or inflammation. When the melanocyte cell is stimulated in any way, it creates the brown colour melanin and then transfers it down its long dangly arms and injects it into all the surrounding skin cells. Then that’s when we see brown marks on our skin.

What causes my pigmentation?

  1. Well lets face it, the sun is by far the biggest cause of pigmentation in Australia. If you have grown up in Australia you will be guaranteed to have sun damage pigmentation. UVA rays stimulate these brown producing cells called melanocytes, to create brown colour within the skin to protect your skin from the inflammation that the sun causes. Most times this appears as spotty freckles but more aggressive exposure can leave to more severe spots and marks.
  2. Post inflammatory Pigmentation (PIP) is another type of pigmentation. As it’s name implies, it occurs when the skin has been inflammed or trauma has occurred , for example from a pimple, a cut or burn, then there is inflammation under the skin which again stimulated this brown melanin colour. This occurs mostly in darker skins and can be very frustrating. When you get a simple pimple, the skin thinks it’s being invaded with infection and as a defence mechanism your body creates this brown colour to contain the so called invasion almost as if it were a military action. Then the pimple clears, but that brown colour remains for a long time afterwards.
  3. Melasma and Chloasma both appear as milky patchy brown discolouration, normally like a butterfly effect under the eye and upper cheeks, and sometimes on the upper lip and forehead and even chin. Melasma often occurs during pregnancy so make sure you wear sunscreen! Chloasma usually occurs from long use of contraceptive pills, steroids, or even hormonal conditions. Here, the melanocytes become over stimulated and over produce melanin in response to changes in oestrogen and progesterone levels. This melanin becomes trapped in the epidermis and may also extend to the dermis, making it difficult to treat. Pigmented cells then slowly migrate to the surface, making the pigmentation visible. Melasma occurs more commonly in women and darker skin types.

How do I treat hyperpigmentation and restore clear Temple Skin?

There are loads of different ways we approach pigmentation as depending on the cause and your natural skin colour, depends on our approach. For sun damage, its usually fast and simple. A couple of IPL treatments and you’re done, but It is best to book a professional skin analysis with one of our experts, as if you are to treat melasma in the same way we treat sun damage, then you are likely to exacerbate the problem. We would always insist anti-inflammatory ingredients at home, plus Sunscreen is a must. We would also use a combination therapy of any of these: LED light therapy to calm those little melanocytes, peels to turn the pigmented cells off faster, needling to break down melanin clusters and encourage healthy cell activity, or we have 3 different lasers we could use for the right skin type. Most recently, we have begun using the Cosmelan Method and the results show a very high success rate!

Does sunscreen go under my moisturiser or over?

This is a common thing we get asked about Temple Skin in the spa. Your sunscreen always goes on your skin last, after all the deliciously effective ingredients in your serum and moisturiser have penetrated. The sunscreen is designed to sit on top of your other products to protect your skin form UVA and UVB exposure.

Many clients say they weren’t using sunscreen as the typical ones that can be purchased in a supermarket, make your skin greasy and break out. One thing to remember is that not all sunscreens are the same! We have 5 different sunscreens in spa and our personal favourite is the Prevention+ Daily Matte Moisturiser as, yep you guessed it, its a matte finish. Its’ a moisturiser and SPF all in one so easy to save a step in the morning and simply pop this over a serum and voila, ready to prime and makeup!

That brings me to the next pro tip — wait for your sunscreen to absorb properly then simply apply your favourite primer and makeup and then you’re ready to face the day, safely protected from that dreaded UV exposure.

Temple Skin Reminder — Did you know that the reason why us Aestheticians hate hearing that you are not wearing sunscreen EVERY SINGLE day, is because the UVA rays are the longest rays, they’re invisible and even present on cloudy days. And these little buggers are the ones that increase an enzyme in our skin called collagenase, that goes around like little pac men and eats up all our good collagen that keeps us looking young. It also stimulates our brown pigment producing cells, called melanocytes, to cause freckles and sun damage pigmentation as well as accelerating hormonal patchy pigmentation. Please wear SPF EVERY day, even if you’re inside.

I am an adult, why am I getting acne still?

80 per cent of Australians experience acne during their teenage years, more than 30 per cent of women and 50 per cent of men continue to struggle with the skin condition after reaching adulthood.

Acne can have a dramatic impact on your confidence and quality of life, which is why many people set out on a quest for the right treatment and the holy grail of clear skin. From supermarket cleansers to home remedies, this can include all manner of options and unfortunately a lot of wasted money.

Part of your journey to clear Temple Skin may include a combination of regular treatments plus skincare you can take home and add to your daily routine. For example, our Advanced Acne package includes cleaning facials, laser treatment, advanced peels and a skin needling sessions to reduce scarring, however we use smaller combination therapies for less severe cases. By approaching your acne from several different angles, we are able to deliver more noticeable results.

Your treatments will be a gentle approach, and is always appropriate to your age and the grade of acne you suffer.

Does laser hurt?

The word on the street is that yes… Laser does hurt. However, The medical grade laser that we have at temple skincare & spa, is quite the opposite. The idea of having Laser, on your private parts, is scary enough without adding pain to that!

The reason why most lasers hurt is because of the way they cool the skin while they are treating it with Laser. The most common machine on the market uses a cryogen gas to cool the surface of the skin and then hit the laser to heat the hair follicle. This change in temperature not only excites the nerve endings, hence making it painful, but it can also excite the melanocytes which are cells that create brown pigmentation. This is one of the reasons why some lasers can be scary.

Our medical grade laser is imported from Italy, and works quite differently to most on the market. Our Laser has Cold water running through the plate where the Laser is emitted from. What does this mean? This means that the skin is consistently being cooked before, during and after, the laser is being emitted. This means, As there is no extreme change in temperature on the skin, our laser machine is very comfortable for our clients. It also means the risk of post pigmentation on the skin is extremely low and we can treat darker skins and even other ethnic skins, safely.

Winter Skin Rescue Tips from Temple Skincare & Spa

Winter Skin Rescue Tips from Temple Skincare & Spa

Battling with winter skin?

Winter skin can appear red and this is one of the most common conditions we get to see at Temple Skincare during this season. There is a very good reason for this:

In winter your skin becomes more dehydrated due to the cold air, exposure to heating systems and taking those comforting, but not so kind to the skin hot showers and baths.

With varying temperatures, the skin cells work harder, and the immune response system of your skin is on high alert. Long term dehydration results in the redness, which is a sign of inflammation. Most people think they have sensitive skin due to this pink appearance, when the skin is really more sensitised and needs a little TLC to recover. A sensitised skin is red because it has been exposed to certain aggravators and usually temporary once the aggravator is addressed, but a sensitive skin is genetically programmed and a condition that needs to be maintained on an ongoing basis.

Is it Rosacea? Learn more here.

Once the skin shows signs of redness, the surface layer has already been damaged, so think of the term “sun burn” and “wind-burn”, which also results in the red appearance on the skin due to inflammation after overexposure to these elements, so the Winter presents the risk of “freezer burn” in varying degrees on the skin. The cold causes constriction of blood-flow just under the skin, which means there is a slower distribution of blood supply and oxygen, this results in the surface layer forming a very rough damaged layer in an attempt to ward of the effects of the cold. This layer is in effect cells that have died due to a lack of protection, blood supply and oxygen.

The only way to reverse the damage caused by the cold and to restore the skin to its former bouncy texture and glow is by starting over with gentle exfoliation and by oxygenating the skin. The challenge is that sensitised skin needs to be treated with the utmost care and using harsh peels or abrasive treatment is no way to treat this condition.

If sensitised, dehydrated skin is ignored long term, it may lead to premature ageing, with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and the appearance of broken capillaries (small red veins) as well as an overall dull complexion. These conditions will also reduce the ability of the skin to regenerate and heal as quickly as it should.

Our clients love the Organic Refreshing Peel & O2 Youth Elixir Facial because it provides that fabulous glow, we all love and gets rid of dull winter skin without any peeling or flaking. The treatment is suitable for all skin types and effectively removes damaged surface cells with a gentle Exfoliating Enzyme. Next we boost the cellular function of the skin by introducing multiple skin tonics and infusing these active ingredients with pure medical grade oxygen. As you can imagine this is not only great for sensitive, dehydrated skin types, but all skin types that need to shed tired winter skin and restore a healthy vibrance to the skin.

Another reason the winter can be an absolute savage on the skin is that we tend to use very hot water when we bath or shower. Here are a few tips to keep your skin protected, bouncy and glowing all through winter.

Winter Skin Rescue Tips:

  • Use tepid water
  • Wear SPF
  • Use enzyme exfoliators
  • Maintain the delicate pH balance of the skin
  • Apply a serum and cream for dehydration
  • If you are unsure if you have dehydrated, sensitive or sensitised skin book a no obligation skin consult with one of our Skincare Specialists

Medispa Lifting with HIFU, Sydney NSW

June 5, 2020

Put an end to Skin Slackening through Medispa Lifting with HIFU, Sydney!

No doubt you have seen all the hype about Medispa Lifting called HIFU. This youth-rejuvenating treatment took the MediSpa World by storm in the last two years. What you may not know is that HIFU (High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound), has been in use for Anti-Ageing and skin-tightening procedures since 2008, when it was first approved by the FDA, so this is a proven, safe and effective technology for skin tightening, lifting and reshaping those saggy areas that seem to creep up on one overnight.

What can I expect with a medispa lifting treatment like HIFU?

In the early days HIFU delivery was not very comfortable, but as technology has improved to the CFU In Motion version which we have at Temple Skincare & Spa, clients almost don’t feel a thing. The best part is other than a very small occurrence of thermal bumps for a few days, there is no downtime and you can go straight into your next meeting and about your usual routine without any disruption.

A typical session is 60 to 90 minutes, offering safe, effective results without visible trauma to the surface skin. A smooth hand piece is used to deliver tiny deposits of focussed ultrasound energy at just the right depth below the skin. Your skin’s response to this energy is to recondition tired skin by stimulating the growth of fresh, new collagen.

So how does this all work?

Following a thorough consultation to determine if HIFU is the best solution for you. Your therapist will explain in detail how the ultrasound targets the SMAS layer in your skin. The SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) this is a network of elastics responsible for keeping the skin structure and support in place. The HIFU energy creates micro-dot injuries (Thermal Coagulation Points or TCP’s) under the surface of the skin and at varying depths. This process is clinically proven to lift and tighten the skin in the treated areas, as the surrounding tissues contract and heal while creating new collagen around the micro-dots.

This results in a painless, non-surgical face lifting effect, which postpones the need for surgery and avoids lengthy recovery times. In-motion HIFU uses a layered delivery of the HIFU dots and therefore virtually no sensation is experienced during the treatment.

There is no down time to this treatment and because we use the most advanced technology you will have natural results in the firmness of your skin. It is not like a facelift where all the skin is noticeably tight. Your friends will just say that you are looking healthy and happy like you’ve just had a holiday… but they will be thinking envious of your new look.

Best visible results are usually seen after 2-4 weeks and can be repeated every 4-8 weeks.

  • The closest technology available to a true surgical facelift
  • No damage to the skin’s surface
  • A REAL alternative to needles and surgery
  • Achieves amazing, visible results NATURALLY

If unwanted lines, wrinkles and sagging skin are bringing you down, this tried and trusted non-surgical facelift solution worth having!
