Is your bra making you fat?

Is your bra making you fat?

Is your Bra making you fat?

I stopped wearing tight, uncomfortable bras a long time ago and the result? Well, within 3 months I noticed my “back fat” had disappeared – that’s because most of it was not “fat” it was trapped lymphatic fluid. Astonishingly, approximately 56% of the body’s fluid is lymph and it takes 24 to 48 hours to pass through the liver, thereafter it leaves the body through the eliminatory system when you go to the loo. Lymph moves 15 times slower than blood and stagnant lymph can become toxic to the surrounding tissues, eventually affecting the entire body, causing:

  • Lethargy/Lack of Energylymphatic drainage
  • Inability to Concentrate
  • Slow to no Weight Loss
  • Ear Popping and Ear Wringing
  • Low Immunity
  • Respiratory Issues
  • Recurrent sore throat
  • Mucous Build-up
  • Sinusitis
  • Headaches
  • Cellulite
  • Swelling of Limbs
  • Digestive Problems
  • Tingling in Extremities (Fingers and Toes)
  • Breast Tenderness
  • Itchy Skin
  • Breakouts and Skin Eruptions
  • Premature Ageing
  • Muscular Stiffness
  • Joint Aches & Pains
  • Water Retention (A build-up of fluid)

… and that’s just a brief summary!

The lymphatic system is a delicate, complex purification network, which works in synergy with the immune system to clean up cellular debris, metabolic waste and foreign particles. This sophisticated garbage removal system is located superficially under the skin; therefore, lymphatic massage involves the lightest touch and strategic palpitation movements to assist lymph drainage.

Read more about the benefits of Lymphatic Drainage.

Lymph (fluid) is pumped around the body through muscle contractions, similar to the way your heart pumps blood through the body. Lymphatic fluid starts out as a clear, watery fluid and as it passes through the lymphatic channels in the body, the clear liquid becomes slightly viscous or milky as it picks up waste products, protein and lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are cells that protect your system from infection, also known as B Cells and T Cells. The lymphatic transportation circuit is made up of lymph nodes and lymph vessels *imagine a network of pipes and filters *

When the lymphatic system functions optimally, you will enjoy better health, more vitality, clearer skin and accelerated weight loss. There is really no point in trying to “destroy fat cells” with the right diet and exercise if the very waste removal system which is designed to collect the garbage is all backed up.

The lymphatic system responds well to herbal teas/tonics, exfoliation, light massage, water, green plant-based foods, topical stimulants such as body wraps with circulatory boosting ingredients and air compression systems. Not all air compression systems are created equal, so we have put together a list of hacks to help your lymphatic system, including the best body compression system on the market today.

lymphatic drainage

Helpful Lymphatic Hacks – What to do?

  • Deep Breathing
    • Breathe through your nose and expand the abdomen as you do this, then breathe out through the mouth as you pull the abdomen in. 10 Repetitions 1 to 2 x per day.
  • Exfoliation – recommended 1 x per day
    • Use loofa gloves
    • Dry Brush or
    • Body Scrub
  • Topical Stimulants
    • Apply liberally to the legs, arms, buttocks, lower back and abdomen 1 to 2 times per day. We love “Total Fit” by Germaine De Capuccini, which firms the skin, while inhibiting the formation of cellulite. The active ingredients also assist lymphatic drainage with anti-inflammatory extracts like Pomegranate, Green Coffee and Grape Extract, as well as Butchers Broom and Lemon to increase circulation and flush out toxins.

Proven Results: Used in conjunction with a sensible diet and exercise over a 5-week period, clients aged 29 to 54 reported 100% improvement of cellulite, 96% reduction of “love handles” and 92% flatter abdomen.

  • Legs Up the Wall. Once you’ve applied the topical stimulant, lie flat on your back for a few minutes and put your feet up against the wall to facilitate drainage. Lie there blissfully and reclaim 5 minutes of your day – just for you! – Combine with your breathing technique.
  • 20 to 30 minutes Daily Movement (Yoga/Pilates, walk, run or whatever you enjoy!)
  • Saunas and Steam Rooms
Sweat baby sweat! When we perspire additional elimination of toxins take place, alleviating the load on the lymphatic system.
  • Rebounding or Bouncing. Trampolines and Exercise balls a re a great wat to use gravitational pull to activate the lymphatic system and get the sludgy lymphatic fluid to make its way up an out of the body.
  • Massage – Book a lymph drainage massage as often as you can! You will feel amazing and can notice a reduction in water retention almost immediately.

Body Compression

  • Contact Temple Skincare to book your Dr Wraps body contour session, which offers a proven combination of herbal extracts to promote elimination of toxins and excess fluid, by penetration through the skin. These benefits are further combined with an air compression suit which pulsates and uses a rhythmic process to activate and drain the lymphatic system.

Raw Foods/Anti-inflammatory Diet

  • Eat Fresh. Eat Green, Limit Dairy and Avoid Sugar.
Chlorophyll from green vegies purifies the lymph and blood. Eat natural fats such as nuts, seed, avocados, olive oil, coconut oil or coconut cream and butter. You should follow a balanced diet and include protein with each meal or at least two meals per day.

Hormones & Chemicals

  • Be aware of the effect of chemicals found in cosmetics which may disrupt the natural hormone balance of the body. These are usually foaming agents. You can look up the potential side-effects and functions of ingredients on the INCI Directory. One that I specifically try to avoid is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. Found in most toothpastes, body wash and shampoos!
  • Try to avoid processed, commercial and bulk derived foods to ensure that you are not ingesting growth hormones, pesticides and chemicals.

Wear clothes that fit

  • Restrictive clothing plays a large role in restricting the rate of lymphatic drainage in particular areas. Take note of your problem areas and consider if the garments you wear might be aggravating the situation.

Reduce Stress

  • Stress leads to the release of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol, although necessary to balance the adrenal system after stress, also results in tissue thinning and therefore excess levels of cellular debris and free-radicals, which are destructive molecules that cause cellular “rust” to put it simply.
  • Stress also leads to processes which cause heightened levels of uric acid and lactic acid, which may therefore directly lead to muscle and joint stiffness.

Hydrate

  • If the body is dehydrated, lymph becomes sludgy and stagnant. You’ve heard it before, so here it is again – Drink plenty of water and room temperature is best, unless it’s first thing in the morning then luke-warm preferable to activate the digestive system. Adding a few slices of cucumber, strawberries or apple and mint to the water will help mineralise the body and make getting used to the water intake a pleasure.

Tonics, Teas & Tinctures

  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar on 1 L of water – drink throughout the day

Herbs that help

  • Red Clover, Astragalus, Mullein, goldenseal, fenugreek, ginger, wild indigo rood, sarsaparilla, golden seal, paprika and olive leaf tea.

It’s never about implementing all the tips at once. Its about adding one thing to your routine every few days until it becomes a way of life. That is how a good friend of mine has lost 30kg in 4 months. If you have made the decision to regain control of your health, life and body, don’t let anything stand in your way. With more than 20 years’ experience, we’re here to help you every step of the way.

Love The Temple Team xx

PS- this is my favourite treatment at The Temple, I swear I feel lighter after my Dr Wrap sessions.

You just don’t know what you don’t know… skincare mishap

Date published: 12 Dec 2017, Updated: 14 Sept 2026

You just don’t know what you don’t know… a skincare mishap

I was walking through the cosmetic department of a major department store the other day and overheard a lady complaining that she hadn’t seen any results with the skincare she had purchased from there. Me being curious as to what the counter lady would say, I fluffed around and pretended to shop to listen in…

The problem I then heard was that this customer had been using her skincare all wrong. She had brought the whole range but had been applying her sunscreen, then her serum and then her moisturiser.

Then it occurred to me… how many customers are using their hard earned skincare wrong and don’t even know it? It is a prevalent occurrence in our industry that we presume our clients have a good understanding on what we do and how to care for their skin. This clients lack of results came as a result of disconnect in communication and an assumption that the customer knew everything we do about looking after her skin and using skincare. What I learnt from that is our customers don’t know, what they don’t know and its up to us as Professional Therapists and skincare advisors to communicate correctly in how they are to use their products to get the best out of them.

So here it is, the run down on how to use most effectively look after your skin at home. Lets go with the daily routine right now.

1) Each day you should be cleansing your skin morning and night

In the morning, even though you think your skin is still clean, just a quick cleanse to remove any of last nights creams, along with residue from metabolic waste produced and allow better penetration for the days skincare routine. If you wear makeup, you definitely need to cleanse twice that evening, as night is when all the skin cells go into overdrive trying to repair all the damage caused by what they have been exposed to all day long fighting off aggressors. Stress, pollution, sun and environment cause massive amounts of free radical damage and aggressors within the skin, so at night time we need to give your skin optimal ingredients to help them to repair the damage, then whatever is not repairable, the skins immune system will eliminate, so given the skin a fighting chance.

Here’s a list of our fave cleansers to add to your routine.

2) Next apply a hydrating or antioxidant tonic lotion to your skin

Now, in the old days I didn’t believe in toners as they were more irritating and harsh, full of alcohol which strips the skins natural barrier of protection called the pH. These days you can get some beautiful tonics and since I started to use one about a year ago, I can never go back. Check the ingredients to find one that is giving to the skin and not depleting, and then apply by splashing a small amount into your hands then press into your skin, no need to waste your product on cotton rounds as remember we are feeding the skin not removing anything. In saying that, if you suffer from acne, then a renewing toner that has a small amount of salicylic acid in it, is often the best to assist in that deep cleansing and antibacterial application. Once you try a tonic applied by pressing in with your hands, you will never go back as your skin feels loads more hydrated and you actually use less of your other products as they all penetrate better.

Learn more about Salicylic Acid here.

3) The correct way to use your skincare is to apply the smallest molecular size and highest active ingredients first

This is normally in the form of a serum. Whilst your skin is still damp with the tonic, you then apply your serum. A serum plays a critical role in the results you attain from your skincare. If you apply your serum whilst your skin is still damp from the tonic you will use less serum and the hydration will allow it to penetrate deeper into the layers it is most needed.

Check out these amazing Serums and Anti-Acne skincare gems.

The serum is the product that brings about most of the change within the skin. There are many different types of serums available and your professional skincare therapist can recommend what best suits the concerns you have with your skin, and all serums should be prescribed as a cyclic program, however my 4 favourites are…

  • Hyaluronic acid to rebalance the hydration levels of your skin by holding 1000 times its own weight in moisture, as well as plumping the skin by replenishing the natural levels of HA found within your dermis that keeps your collagen and elastin nice and youthful.
  • My next favourite serum would definitely be Retinyl Palmitate. This is a more concentrated and smaller molecule of Vitamin A that is commonly used for anti-ageing and sun damage. Retinyl Palmitate forces mitosis of new healthy skin cells to be born within the epidermis (surface of the skin). It repairs damaged skin cells then encourages them to multiply almost like a photocopier for healthy skin cells. This serum is best used at night and in conjunction with an SPF, but definitely worth a look at.
  • Good old Vitamin C is another beauty to have at least twice a year. Its is really important you buy a quality Vitamin C serum that is composed of ascorbic and L-ascorbic acid and that is in a formula that is stable as Vitamin C oxidizes fast. Just leave your cut apple out and see the effects oxygen has on Vitamin C. This Vitamin C serum is a must for people who want that immediate brightening and glow. It’s a great pigmentation inhibitor (tyrosinase inhibits melanin), and its fabulous for hydration. An all over winner for that pick me up or post summer glow.

4) Moisturise with a good quality product

Wow that last step seemed like a doozy but well worth it, now we are on cruise control. Next we simply moisturise with a good quality product that will mimic the skin’s natural barrier function to hydrate and protect the skin. The moisturiser will prevent your skins natural hydration from evaporating, it will balance the hydro-lipidic level (that is water v’s oil content) so as the skin can regulate its oil flow and function normally.

Hydrate and moisturise for glowing skin with these products.

5) Last but especially not least we use our SPF

This is where our customer in the department store went wrong. A good quality UVA UVB blocker is imperative if you want to look younger for longer. Did you know that UVA wavelength is all year round and we actually have about 64% exposure through incidental light from car window, hanging the washing out and even some old computers and fluorescent light tubes can emit high levels of UVA. Why is this important? Well its simple really, UVA increases an enzyme within the skin that goes around like little pac men and gobbles up our good healthy collagen and our collagen is what makes us look young. Treat it like gold and protect it every day with an SPF.

Protect from the harsh sun here.

5) Just a note on Exfoliation

Exfoliation is considered one of the most important techniques that you can perform on your skin to resolve certain skin problems as well as to achieve healthy and glowing … You would then combine this with a very mild facial scrub generally twice a week in the morning to lift off and remove the dissolved skin cells. Exfoliating no more than five times a week is best as you can absolutely do more damage over exfoliating and stripping your pH of the skin.

There are two types of exfoliants. First, a “chemical” or “acid” exfoliant does the work for you. You apply it, leave it on the skin, and it works to dissolve the dry skin cells. These exfoliants include ingredients such as glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids and enzymes such as pumpkin, papaya, and pineapple. Second, a “physical” exfoliant means that you have to do the work. These exfoliants include facial brushes, sponges, and facial scrubs. A combination of both physical and chemical exfoliants will give your skin the best results.

For most skin types, this would be a an exfoliating acid serum used under a moisturizer at night for three nights on, three nights off. This way, you’re still getting an intensive exfoliation, but you also give your skin a break. You would then combine this with a very mild facial scrub twice a week in the morning to lift off and remove the dissolved skin cells.

Can I over-exfoliate?

If you use a facial scrub and your skin turns bright red and feels irritated afterwards, it probably means that the grains used in the scrub are too large—or you simply applied too much pressure when massaging it over your face. I suggest avoiding natural scrubs, such as those with walnut husks. These have sharp edges that can lacerate the skin. Look for natural, non-plastic jojoba beads as they will roll across the skin and not cause irritation. If you are using chemical exfoliants and your skin starts to dry out, you may be removing too much of the skin’s protective barrier, allowing moisture to escape. Cut back and the skin’s barrier should naturally repair itself.

6) Let’s also talk about Face Masks

A face mask is intended to treat your particular skin condition so it’s important to choose the right one. Depending on their ingredients, masks can tighten and tone, hydrate, nourish, draw out impurities, help blemishes heal, calm and soothe, and rejuvenate the skin.

Face masks are one of my favorite skin care products, I have 5 different ones at home and I alter them according to what I want to treat my skin with at the time. They’re easy to apply, fun to use and are great at delivering results. My favorite thing about applying a good face mask is the feeling of tightened and toned skin after a single use.

Should everyone use a face mask?

Absolutely. Face masks are the perfect skin care treatment to help you with your skin care concerns. The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and help improve the appearance of your pores. They’re also an excellent way to help pull out impurities. Another advantage of wearing a face mask: the feeling of being pampered like you’re at a spa from the comfort of your own home. At The Temple Skincare & Spa, we wouldn’t dream of performing a facial without using a face mask, so why would your homeware routine not include one?

At The Temple Skincare & Spa, we believe your skin needs a balanced diet of ingredients just like your nutrition for your body. A cocktail of ingredients is essential for your skins health and youthfulness. We suggest ingredients like AHAs/BHAs, Retinols, Peptides,  Stem Cells, Brightening Agents,  Antioxidants and most importantly SPF. There are some other important factors we consider when choosing what skincare we prescribe at The Temple. These are, are they paraben free, absolutely no animal testing, we prefer to recommend brands that utilise recycled packaging and that have a clear protocol for sustainability to minimise their carbon footprint.

Our commitment to caring for the planet.

So what I learnt from my little ears dropping experience in the shops the other day, is that you, the customer, simply doesn’t know what you don’t know and you are doing your skincare to the best of your knowledge. It is up to us as the professional, to make sure you are getting the most out of your experience and the results you deserve. At the temple Skincare we really listen to your needs wants and desires with your skin, we perform a computerized skin analysis, then offer you a wholistic solution for your concern. Good luck with your skincare journey, we hope to help you along the way.

Love,

Rene and the team @TheTempleSkincare

6 Dangerous Sunscreen Mistakes

6 Dangerous Sunscreen Mistakes

Don’t worry, making sunscreen mistakes is very common. But with skin cancer on the rise, it’s more important than ever to get smart when it comes to sunscreen.

Protect yourself by checking out these common mistakes that you may be making with your sunscreen.

01 – I DON’T NEED SUNSCREEN BECAUSE I NEED THE VITAMIN D

It’s true. Vitamin D is essential as it absorbs calcium and promotes bone growth. But you can get a sufficient amount of Vitamin D by spending only 10-15 minutes in the sun. It’s not worth foregoing sunscreen, as most people don’t apply enough to prevent the production of Vitamin D anyway.

02 – ONE APPLICATION LASTS AND ENTIRE DAY

One application in the morning isn’t going to last you throughout the entire day. If you are swimming, playing sports, or spending the day out in the sun, then your sunscreen should be reapplied approximately every two hours.

03 – I DON’T NEED SUNSCREEN BECAUSE I HAVE DARK SKIN

While people with more pigment in their skin do have a lower risk of getting skin cancer, they are not completely immune. As a matter of fact, skin cancer can be even more dangerous for those with darker skin as it’s often diagnosed in the later stages.

Read about Hot Skincare Tips for Summer here.

04 – A BASE TAN PROTECTS ME

A tan is your body’s reaction to UV exposure. It’s a sign that damage has already been done, and this does not protect your skin from further damage.

05 – I ONLY NEED TO PROTECT MY FACE

Many people only apply sunscreen to their face in order to protect it from premature aging. While this is a good habit, the truth is that you can develop skin cancer anywhere the sun touches. Don’t forget your neck, hands, legs and feet not only for the sake of protecting your skin from cancer, but protecting those areas from premature aging as well.

06 – I’LL BE INSIDE ALL DAY

While windows do block the more intense UV rays, it still allows enough rays to pass through to cause damage. You can easily swap your everyday moisturizer with the PREVENTION + Daily Hydrating Moisturizer that has an SPF of 30.

Fun in the Sun: Beach Bag Essentials

  1. HAT – Keeping a hat in your bag is a cardinal rule when it comes to the subject of sun protection. It can protect your scalp and cut down on the rays that are hitting on your face and neck
  2. SUNGLASSES – When it comes to any outdoor trip, sunglasses are an obvious requirement. While protecting your eyes from       the sun so you can safely explore those vacay horizons, they also provide sun protection for delicate eye area and prevent squinting…which can lead to wrinkles!
  3. LIP BALM – Keep your pout hydrated and beach-ready with our ORMEDIC balancing lip enhancement complex
  4. BEACH TOWEL – This handy item provides a safe haven to rest your rump and it doubles as a cover-up if you feel like you having too much sun with your fun.
  5. FRUIT – Grapes, strawberries and oranges make perfect snacks for the beach. They’re refreshing, sweet and won’t make you feel too full or lethargic.
  6. PLENTY OF WATER – Don’t forget to pack the biggest bottle of water you can find. Staying hydrated on a hot day is important not only for your skin but also prevents dehydration.
  7. SUN PROTECTION – Tanned skin looks beautiful but how long does it last? Wrinkles, pigmentation and skin cancer are long term. Besides, you can always just use our BODY SPA face and body bronzer for a sunless, gorgeous bronzed glow.
  8. Always remember to use an SPF 30 or above when enjoying time in the sun and don’t forget to reapply every two hours!

1 – HIFU FaceLifting

HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. What is that I hear you think… well its not a laser, its not fraxel, its not Radio Frequency, IPL, skin needling or any other surgical or non surgical skin rejuvenation… its the next generation in advanced facial rejuvenation with deeper penetration, Real visible longer lasting results… AND most importantly, NO damage to the skins surface, NO surgery, NO bleeding and NO scarring!

  • The closest technology available to a true surgical face-lift
  • Non-invasive
  • NO damage to the skin surface = NO down-time
  • A REAL alternative to needles and surgery
  • Achieves amazing visible lasting results NATURALLY!

HIFU beams through the surface of the skin to deliver precise and fractional ultrasound energy at exactly the right depths and temperature, to stimulate BOTH muscle firming / lifting AND new collagen production; all with NO damage or disruption to the skin surface!

Our clients can go out to lunch after a full facial procedure !

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

The fundamental principle is similar to using a magnifying glass to focus sunlight, generating a burning heat. Focused ultrasound uses an acoustic lens to concentrate multiple intersecting beams of ultrasound energy precisely on a target point deep in the skin. Each individual beam passes through tissue with no effect (just like normal Ultrasound scan); but at the focal point, where the beams converge, the combined energy has a precise localised thermal (heating) effect.

The HIFU delivers High Intensity Focused Ultrasound energy to the deep dermis, subcutaneous tissue, and facial muscle (SMAS) layers. In the deeper levels of the dermis the HIFU targets the connective tissue stimulating collagen synthesis (wound healing response), improving skin texture and lifting.

The SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) layer is responsible for muscular activity in the face (facial expression). By stimulating the SMAS layer, there is a muscle contraction and new collagen synthesis, which over the next 6-12 weeks naturally lifts and firms the skin.

Key client benefits :

1. Lift eyebrows and tighten brows

2. Reduce frown lines

3. Lift and firm jowl area

4. Soften smiles lines

5. Reduce nasolabial folds

6. Improve appearance of neck

The lifting effects continue for up to 6 months as the collagen matrix rebuilds.

2 – Non Surgical BodySculpting

Our next new baby is the latest CoaxMed straight from Italy. This little baby is a complete Non-surgical answer to all our prayers… Radio Frequency + MicroNeedling fractional radio frequency + Ultrasound with RadioFrequency + Rhythms Vacuum + Cryoliposculpt (fat freezing) … what does all that tech talk mean for us?? Well it means we can now offer you real results in Body Sculpting without surgery:

  • elimination of cellulite
  • skin tightening & firming
  • reduction in localised pockets of fat
  • body smoothing
  • excess fat
  • lymphatic drainage
  • facial rejuvenation for anti ageing at the same time! This one machine will treat different face and body imperfections simultaneously!

yes you heard me right… you relax reading a book or working on your laptop while we freeze your fat!

How does Coaxmed for the body work?

Coaxmed combines multiple treatment effects:

DUOSHAPE – Radiofrequency + Low Frequency Ultrasound (cavitation) – mechanical vibration and disruption of fibrosis and fat cells; waste fat is expelled from the cells and then eliminated through the metabolism, thanks to the reactivated blood microcirculation.

VACULASE – Utilizes laser diodes to reactivate and boosts the arterial, venous and lymphatic micro-circulation, encouraging neoangiogenesis of the intradermal vessels. The laser light energy also has beneficial effects on fibroblast activity. The combined localised handpiece’s tip cooling boosts the volume-reducing effect, optimising reabsorption of the edema by stimulating vascular workout. At the same time, the rhythmic aspiration massage activates the lympho-drainage and tissue stimulation processes, enhancing restoration of the skin’s optimal collagen elastic tension.

COOLSHAPE – Fat Freezing – Reduction of fat deposit thanks to the intense cold (-10º) that is able to target only the fat cells in that area. Since fat cells is more sensitive to cold temperatures than other skin cells, it freezes the lipids in the cells which then slowly dissolve without causing trauma or injury to the surrounding tissues.

4-coaxmed_before4-coaxmed_after

Are the results permanent?

Results achieved with Coaxmed are permanent. Nevertheless, the beneficial effects given by the treatment will be influenced by your life style. Remember: smoke, alcohol, stress and poor eating habits all interfere with the way your body looks.

How many treatments?

Results are visible even after the first session. Coaxmed combines multiple technologies in the same procedure capable of producing evident changes on skin elasticity, cellulite and inches loss. Depending from the procedure performed, Coaxmed guarantees stable results in only an average of 6-10 sessions. Fat freezing however, visibly reduces the fat by average of 40% in only 2 treatments!

COAXmed post pregnancy

Is it safe? And how long will it take to recover from the treatment?

Coaxmed is a generally safe, non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that does not require anesthesia. Some people experience mild redness immediately following the procedure, but this usually disappears quickly. Most people find that they can return to work and normal activities immediately after treatment. You may be advised to use soothing skin formulations to apply to the treatment area to minimize any discomfort caused by the procedure.

Who is the best candidate for Coaxmed procedure?

Adults in good shape with areas of unwanted fat that do not want to undergo surgery are ideal candidates for Coaxmed. Good candidates are already physically active and adhere to a healthy diet.

Why choose Coaxmed over other procedures?

Clinical trials have shown that the results obtained with Coaxmed are extremely satisfactory and proof the procedure to be effective, safe and without doubt a revolutionary approach in the treatment of cellulite, excess fat and poor circulation.

Prioritising wrinkles at The Temple…

July 4, 2017

Prioritizing wrinkles at the Temple …

Significantly improving the appearance of facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles, sun damaged and ageing skin, acne scars and stretch marks has never been easier at The Temple as we have all the latest and greatest treatment tools in our ‘shed’. One of the ways we fight the war against wrinkles is with our innovative and award-winning non-surgical skin regeneration procedure called E-Dermastamp. This treatment provides advanced micro-medical skin-needling, a procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.

The Temple’s E-dermastamp Collagen Induction Therapy + Scar Reduction Therapy procedure works by stimulating your own body’s collagen and breaking down scar tissue. Your body will start to naturally regenerate the skin, it will only take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration are seen & the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a gradual & long lasting enhancement. The Dermastamp also utilises INFUSE-AS-YOU-GO technology to instantly infuse anti ageing ingredients deep into the skin to give your clients an instant hit of stimulation.

The Dermastamp system is used to treat:

  • Tissue Regeneration
  • Skin Rejuvenation
  • Collagen Induction Therapy
  • Scar Reduction Therapy
  • Fine Lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Deep Wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin colour
  • Pore Size Reduction
  • Stretch Marks
  • Acne Scarring
  • Isolated Scarring

The Temples’ Dermastamp is a treatment using very fine needles. It is a medical device used in micro needling to break down old scar tissue & to stimulate skin cells to proliferate. This cell multiplication results in the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibres as well as in new capillaries for an improved blood supply and more evenly spread nutrition to your skin.
The skin is cleaned and afterwards numbed with an appropriate numbing cream so it should not hurt at all. Skin is thoroughly needled in such a way, that each skin part is needled about 15 to 20 times. An even flushing is the best indication for a perfect medical performance.

For Collagen Induction Therapy we recommend to start with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 6 to 8 weeks between treatments. For Scar Reduction Therapy an average of 3 to 5 treatments are recommended, with an improvement of 70-80%. Unlike ablative procedures for facial skin only, the Dermastamp can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs, etc).

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 24 hours on average. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend healing minerals, peptides and hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc based sun screen. We also recommend the use of mineral makeup to help with the healing.

The Temple Skincare & Spa have dermal therapists who specialise in corrective skin treatments in our team, so rest assured you are in good hands to get that skin you deserve!

TREND ALERT: Say hello to the magic of multimasking

May 16, 2017

TREND ALERT: SAY HELLO TO THE MAGIC OF MULTIMASKING

Most of us have combination skin. Sometimes it can feel like a battle between finding the perfect blend of products that anti-age but don’t leave us too dry, and delivery hydration and radiance but don’t make us too oily. Enter the completely brilliant new trend of multimasking. Because the different areas of our face present different skincare challenges, it makes perfect sense to treat these areas using different products.

“pores are larger in the T-Zone and it generally tends to be a bit oiler than the rest of the face thanks to the higher amount of oil glands”

01

T-ZONE Our T-Zone is the portion of the face made up of the forehead, nose, chin and area circling the mouth. Shockingly…it got this name because it forms a T on the face. For most people, the pores are larger in the T-Zone and it generally tends to be a bit oiler than the rest of the face thanks to a higher amount of oil glands positioned there.

The T-Zone needs a greater amount of exfoliation and deep pore treatments than the rest of the face. Depending on your skin type, you’ll want to use either a deep pore cleansing mask, an exfoliating masque, or an acne mask in this area. We love our AGELESS total resurfacing masque from ImageSkincare or PureExpert Balancing Mask from Germaine, which delivers dual-exfoliation technologies to gently buff away dead skin cells and impurities while rejuvenating skin.

02

C H E E K S Our Cheeks can present a host of various skincare issues. For some, the cheeks tend to be much drier than the rest of the skin. For others, acne tends to plague this area, particularly along the jawline. Some people experience pigmentation (or brown spots) on the cheeks due to overexposure to the sun and UV damage.

Choose a mask that works for your particular skin issue. Have more than one issue in the same area? No problem. We love layering products underneath our masks for the ultimate one-two punch of powerful prevention and protection. To lighten, tighten and brighten the cheeks, try layering ImageSkincares’ ILUMA intense brightening serum beneath a blend of our ILUMA brightening exfoliating powder and our AGELESS total resurfacing masque for a special kick. Or perhaps you prefer Germaine’ Hydracure Hydrating mask for that extra moisture (tip- you can even sleep in this moisture mask to rehydrate and plump your skin twice a week).

03

U N D E R  E Y E  A R E A The delicate Under Eye Area is often forgotten during masking treatments. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to pamper your peepers! Common issues found in this zone are dehydration, ne lines and wrinkles, puf ness and dark circles. Most people will need a serious dose of hydration beneath the eyes, so we recommend layering in this area with a hydrating product like our ImageSkincares’ VITAL C hydrating eye recovery gel. For dark circles, try layering our ORMEDIC balancing eye lift gel with our ORMEDIC balancing gel masque. One of my all time favourites, is the Germaine TimeExpert Rides Eye Patches with a thin layer of my TimeExpert Rides Day Eye cream underneath for relaxing my expression lines under my eyes and giving them an instant plump and glow.

04

FOREHEAD The Forehead is another area that may need a little extra TLC. Though generally considered part of the T-Zone, the forehead can present another set of skin issues entirely. For some, this area is a major source of concern due to ne lines, wrinkles and pigmentation. Before you run to your stylist to request a fancy new set of bangs, give multimasking a try. You’ll be surprised how far a little retinol and a lot of hydration can go. For this zone we love layering our AGELESS total retinol-a crème beneath the MAX stem cell masque and/or our AGELESS total resurfacing masque.

HOW TO LAYER

  • (black) T-Zone and chin areas need the most exfoliation due to larger pores and higher amounts of oil glands.
  • (white) Take tender care of under eye areas with gentle, hydrating masks.
  • (aqua) Cheeks are versatile and vary by individual. Ask your aesthetician which mask addresses your speci c skin concern.
  • (orange) The décolleté area is often forgotten and tends to be one of the rst places to show the signs of aging. Skin in that area is very fine and sensitive so go for a gentle yet anti-aging mask such as ImageSkincares’ the MAX stem cell masque.

Six Ways to Wear a Nude Lip

April 21, 2017

Well I certainly love a nude lip to go with my sexy smokey eye on a big night out, but I also love the nude lip look for an understated natural beauty look… I found this article in allure.com and thought you might like a read. My personal favourite nude lipstick is our Youngblood Barely Nude and I love to mix up the look by changing my lip liner for different effects to reflect my outfit and desired look. Have a little read of the article below for some tips and tricks on your nude lips. Enjoy

Love Rene xx

… Nude lips are everywhere right now, and there’s no shortage of information about how to find your perfect nude shade. But nudes and naturals aren’t just about matching your skin tone and calling it a day. A nude lip can be a subtle complement to a dramatic eye, or a statement look unto itself—and you don’t need limit yourself to “your” nude.
Case in point: makeup artist Kali Kennedy used the same shade—Maybelline’s Color Sensational Inti-Matte Nudes in Raw Chocolate—on Kyle, (left above) and Liz, (right above). For Kyle, Kennedy says, “I chose a shade similar to her lip tone but a little deeper and cooler.” Kennedy limited the coverage to one swipe, leaving the color sheer enough that Kyle’s freckles show through.

When it came to Liz, Kennedy found herself gravitating to the same dusky pink. “A heavier application of the same color created a more defined nude,” she says. If you plan to pack on nude color, she suggests using a lip brush to apply the color closely to the lip line. In both cases, a nude lip is key to a polished take on no-makeup makeup.
Below, Kennedy shares four ways to break the rules with nudes.

Make a statement

“Nudes can be unique and interesting,” says Kennedy. “They’re not just safe makeup and everyday makeup.” Someone with Liz’s skin tone might think of a deep burgundy like Maybelline’s Brown Blush as somebody else’s nude. But paired with a chunky application of colored mascara, it dials “simple” up to “statement.”
Going for a lip that’s lighter than your skin tone makes a major statement. If it feels too severe, you can marry the two tones with a lip liner in a second, deeper neutral, says Kennedy. A wash on Kyle’s eyes in a similar pale pink to her lip (Inti-Matte Nudes Hot Sand) brought it all together and made it feel intentional.

Wear the runway

Bold nudes can transform no-makeup makeup into a look, but a subtle nude can just as easily create a wearable interpretation of runway beauty trends. On Kyle, Kennedy turned the love-it-or-hate-it smudged lip phenomenon into a rich, natural look (ideal for those of us who don’t excel at makeup precision), using Inti-Matte Nudes Toasted Truffle and some loose powder. “I used an eyeliner smudger to pack in powder from the lip line to the center of the lip,” says Kennedy. “I wanted it to absorb light and look velvety.”
Liz’s look is a toned-down take on the ubiquitous color-blocking trend, using a nude lip to balance out a bold, graphic eye. “Every nude has a hint of some undertone,” Kennedy says. “The pastel pink in Maybelline’s Peach Buff and Purely Nude is very relevant and on-trend, and it played off the pastel blue eye.” Working with lighter colors, consistent application is key, so she recommends working the color into the crevices and fine lines of lips with your fingertip if necessary.

Do you really love the skin you’re in?

November 18, 2015

Do you really love the skin you’re in?

Yesterday I was on a mission to buy the perfect dress for a red carpet event I had to attend. As I walked through one of the major department stores, there was hardly a staff member to be found and zero customer service. Not only did I have no one to suggest a dress for my occasion and body type, but also even if I had found my own dress in store, they made it hard for me to give them my money to pay for it so I left.

On my way out I passed through the cosmetic department and it hit me… the realisation on how frustrating and confusing it must be to be YOU… a consumer simply wanting to buy that miracle skincare to help them attain that perfect skin they desire. I overheard the lady behind one of the cosmetic counters ‘selling’ to a lady in her mid 40’s. I felt sorry for the customer as she seemed emotional to get her skin clear and fresh for her big day and the lady behind the counter was telling her information that was (what my 31 years of industry experience as a dermal therapist has taught me as) simply not correct.

So I thought no wonder many of you self diagnose with the use of the Internet and ‘Dr Google’ and why many of you order your self prescribed products online… Why would you not when this is the alternative for many? ZERO customer service experience!… ZERO faith in the knowledge of most our industry!…ZERO results in your skincare because it was self diagnosed!… ZERO WOW factor at all really!. Not industry related now but in general I feel that It’s a shame because as a society as a whole, we are all now accustomed to receiving zero service as the ‘norm’ so we accept it. We used to comment when we had a bad experience but now I don’t know about you but I always comment when we have a great experience because it’s rare. Shame really.

Buying cosmetics online

The thing with buying your products online is that there are so many easily available to you so how do you choose? There are also many really active products available that have such a low pH in a burning acid cream that they totally damage the top layer of the skin. Then as you try to soothe and hydrate this dry, damaged and impaired skin with a thicker moisturizer, the pimples appear. And so it goes that vicious cycle until you realise you need professional help.

As you come for help you may not tell us the whole story with what concoctions you have conjured to get your skin that way and to undo and normalize your skin we must be a detective and rest assured a professional dermal therapist can help you, but this will take about 6 weeks of treatment in clinic and homecare to get you on the right path to that healthy skin you dream of.

I have a question for you… How many of you visit the hairdresser every week for your blow-dry, or every few weeks for the colour or cut, or get your nails done regularly?

Are hair and nails more worthy than the skin you’re in?

You’re skin is alive and you must value it, nurture it and preserve it. Your skin is the first sign of internal health isn’t it? When you see a glowing healthy skin we automatically associate this with health and wellbeing.

I want to explain why I believe you should prioritise the one and only skin you get. I understand shopping online and self-diagnosis can be convenient and often cheaper, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I can’t stress enough that a beauty therapist trained in dermal therapies has the highest standards for your skin health and is a much safer, more effective and in the long run, cheaper (taking into account the money you spend on correcting self diagnosed blunders) option than self diagnosing over the internet.

Your local dermal therapist can offer you almost instant results with the use of technology and combination modalities such as laser, IPL, Radiofrequency, needling, light therapy and not to mention the instantly gratifying anti-wrinkle and filler injectables. She is also your professional advisor to what skin care ingredients you need to use on your skin at home to prolong your results and preserve your skin as youthful as possible. She will look at your skin and causes of your skin conditions in a very holistic manner to get to the cause of that concern and not just cover it up with a ‘band-aid’ solution. I urge you to reassess your priorities… if you regularly visit your hairdresser and nail artist, do you regularly treat your skin? Its not a ‘treat’ or pamper anymore, it’s a necessity!

In the US it is seen as part of the normal routine to visit your dermal therapist regularly to keep your skin at optimal health, it is as normal as visiting your GP or your gym. Your skin changes constantly in response to seasons, hormones and life aggressors. Let your professional therapist help maneuver you through these changes with a customized routine to keep a healthy glowing skin all year round. Just a thought!
