The Day Spa at Temple Skincare is your space — a respite from stress, for solitude, meditation and to nurture your mindfulness journey.
Contrary to what many people think, a day spa is not just a place to get a “fancy” facial. The Temple Skincare spa is both an ideal and idyllic choice to care for your skin and your soul.
The moment you walk down the jasmine-lined path to the spa, it is already a calming and restful experience. Automatically, this sets the mood for your senses to be actively present and attuned to your body and your surroundings. Our trained and professional therapists are also a select group of caring and giving individuals. They are ready to pamper and spoil you with the careful and caring attention you need.
We have also partnered up with Aromatherapy Associates to bring you day spa facials and massages best for meditative activity. The treatments are designed to treat the skin and mind simultaneously — because beauty is often beyond skin deep.
The many women (and men) that we see at Temple often come to relieve stress and for good reason. In our very busy, noisy lives, it is a must to find a space to quiet the mind, meditate and to enjoy (even if for a few hours) a mindful life.

Benefits of Meditation
It is undeniable though how regular meditation is quickly becoming a prescription for a healthier life and overall wellness. The research on meditation and mindfulness point to positive effects including reduced anxiety, increased well-being, increased connectedness and empathy, improved focus, improved relationships with others, heightened creativity, better memory and improved decision-making skills. And those are just the cognitive benefits. Meditation is also associated with other, more tangible health benefits, such as addiction treatment, improved cardiovascular health, a stronger immune system and better sleep quality.
Being mindful of one’s actions and self helps bring you to a meditative state.
Sitting still and emptying the mind at the day spa
The trouble is that in today’s fast-paced and social-media driven life, it’s simply harder to sit still and actively do nothing. When I first attended a meditation class, I could barely keep a focussed, quiet mind for 10 seconds. Before I knew it, I was thinking of the report I had to do for work and the dinner I had to cook for the kids after the class.
It’s deceptively harder than many would think!
Plus, many would assume that being “good “at meditation meant that you’d have to be totally zen and calm for hours on end. One writer described the experience as though it were like running a full marathon the first time you lace up your running shoes. A miracle feat!
How to meditate?
It helps if you are in a quiet place. The day spa environment at Temple is a good choice. Sit by the pool or make use of it. Then proceed with our hour-long Mindfulness Facial Treatment to build a sensory experience of scents, textures and temperatures, relaxing music and solitude.
With your skin and body cared for, your mind can be left to wander to a meditative state.
Try the meditation techniques below during the treatment or while at the day spa:
- Body scanning during a day spa treatment
This is a good stepping stone to deeper meditation practice and a fantastic crash course on the concept of mindfulness.
In meditation, mindfulness is an intentional awareness of the present moment. It’s the kind of thing that seems obvious, right? Like something you must already be doing just to function, but it’s not. Ever gotten into your car and made it home without exactly remembering the drive? Or, eaten a meal without really tasting it? That’s how easy it is for us to get stuck on autopilot and mentally disconnect from what’s going on in the moment.
- Take a couple of deep breaths, and get ready to focus on your body for a few minutes.
- Start at the top of your head and focus on actively feeling what’s going on in your body, moving slowly from your the top of your head to the soles of your feet.
- Notice the weight of your own hair hanging down from your scalp. Notice where you situate your tongue in your mouth when you aren’t talking. Notice where your weight rests in your spine and what your feet feel like pressed against the ground.
- This seems very basic, but most of us never do it in day-to-day life. We’re too busy thinking about the emails we haven’t answered and the errands we haven’t run. But, when you’re actively focusing your attention on how your body feels, you can’t think about the emails and errands, and mindfulness starts to take shape.
- If you do catch your mind drifting to those emails and errands, don’t beat yourself up or write the session off as a failure. Just acknowledge that your mind drifted, let the thought go, and refocus on the body scan, right where you left off.
- Swimming meditation
If keeping still is truly a big challenge for you, then swim. The pool by Temple Skincare & Spa is for you to use before or after your day spa treatment. Bring your swimsuit and let the water lull you and shut out the world around you.
- Take a few breaths and get into a calm mindset.
- Start moving through the water, focusing on the act of swimming. Actively be mindful of the aspects of swimming like lifting your arm, moving your body forward, paddling your feet and legs, the sensation of water drifting over your body, etc.
- Count your strokes (10-15 is a good number), pause and take a few deep breaths, focusing on the sensation of breathing in and out.
- Then repeat.
- Sound mindfulness meditation
- Close your eyes, and listen to the world around you, making a note of every sound that you hear, say, 10 or 15 sounds.
- List them out, one by one, starting with the obvious: maybe music playing over the speakers, for starters.
- Then, go deeper. Notice the quiet shuffling of your therapist’s feet as she moves around you; pay attention to the sound of the brush or hands as salves or masks are applied on your skin; or, the rhythmic sound of your own breathing.
- Sound mindfulness is not only versatile, but also a quick and effective way to break an anxiety pattern, particularly if you’re prone to ruminating and catastrophising.

We all love massage but how does it benefit us? From lomi lomi massage and reflexology to stress relief massage and aromatherapy treatments; find out the real benefits of massage.
Massage is so relaxing and feels great but how does it really benefit you?
A great deal of study has gone into proving the benefits of massage and similar or additional treatments like reflexology and aromatherapy. While scientists say the positive side effects vary from person to person and aren’t easy to measure, it definitely has benefits for the body and mind.
Here are some of the ways you can benefit from the many massage treatments on offer at the Temple Skincare menu, which include stress relief, pregnancy massage, lomi lomi , hot stone, relaxation and even holistic massage.
- Reduces stress. Lying face down forces you to be still and encourages you to forget about what’s troubling you. Taking time out to unwind and focus on your body can leave you feeling rested and relaxed, even after a one-hour treatment.
- Helps you sleep. Now you’re feeling more relaxed, you will find it easier to drop off to sleep. What’s more, because you are no longer holding a great deal of tension in your muscles, your sleep will be more restorative.
- Improve flexibility. A full body session feels great but did you know that a good leg massage can help your muscles to stretch and extend? With improved movement potential, you can achieve more at the gym or in your other workouts.
- Relieve pain. Sore muscles can ruin your day. For many people with chronic conditions, this is the only way to find relief. If you’re suffering from an aching body, treat yourself to blissful relief from melting movements to gently rub away the pain. You may even find having a regular treatments can help reduce the soreness for the long term.
- Alleviate depression. While it is always important to speak to your doctor if you are suffering from serious mental issues, a case of the blues can be minimised with professional kinetic therapies. For many people, the human contact and relaxed environment can promote feelings of well-being.
- Boosts your immune system. Studies have found that it can actually help you by improving your resistance to coughs and colds. It is believed that stimulation of the lymph nodes, which takes place during a treatment session, can re-charge your body’s natural defence system.
- Improve circulation. Science Daily reported in 2014 that massage therapy improves general blood flow and alleviates muscle soreness after exercise. According to a study, “The results also showed that massage improved vascular function in people who had not exercised, suggesting that [it] has benefits for people regardless of their level of physical activity.”
Which one is right for you?
Whether you want to relax or treat discomfort you can choose from the following:
- Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Temple Massage. Very flowing, deeply relaxing movements originating from Hawaii. Your therapist will treat you with their arms and hands in flowing strokes over the body in what becomes a dynamic dance of life. It is described like it is a big long hug!

This unique modality with hot stones will bring about a sense of balance & well-being. This is extremely good for muscle aches, fluid retention, and tired stressed souls.
- Aromatherapy Head, Neck and Scalp massage with Deep Conditioning Hair Mask. Kneading and rubbing the head and scalp is an age-old healing art form of holistic therapy. It allows for the relief of mental fatigue, the calming of thoughts and easing of stored tension. The warm hair mask will also invite your mind to relax and let go.

Fans of Temple Skincare and Yoga Doll’s high-performance activewear, gym leggings and yoga wear will be interested to discover the role massage plays in well-being.
With our busy lives taking up so much time, it is important to find a way to unwind, de-stress and focus on yourself.
Along with regular visits to a day spa to look after your skin, yoga should be an essential element of your personal care. Taking the time to focus on your body helps to relieve the pressures that life brings, boosts your fitness and can ease away the pain of injury.
While exercise in the form of yoga or other workouts is so important, experts are now realising the icing on the wellness cake is massage.
Fans of Yoga Doll’s high-performance activewear, gym leggings and yoga wear will be interested to discover the role massage plays in well-being. Take a look at three key benefits of massage:
De-stress and minimise depression
Having a massage provides you with a quiet environment which is free from interruptions. Your phone is switched off, there is nobody asking you to do anything and the only other person in the room is dedicated to making you feel good.
In an article published by the Journal of Physical Therapy Science, a study found that positive effects were observed on stress hormone, blood pressure and heart rate after a scalp massage. For people who have overactive minds, massage is an excellent opportunity to reduce your stress levels while taking time out.
Improve flexibility
If you are serious about becoming better at yoga, you need to make massage part of your routine.
Massage is beneficial for maintaining and improving your flexibility and motion. Your massage therapist will work on your muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints. This will relax stressed muscles, stimulate blood flow and improve your flexibility.
For the best results, combine your stretching routine with massage as often as possible. You don’t always have to pay a professional; a foam roller kept at home can make a big difference in this area.
Reduce injury and muscle soreness
Even after a relaxing yoga workout, you may find your muscles are sore. This is because they are not used to moving as far as they have been.
A fascinating 2012 study found that massage eases sore muscles by turning off genes associated with inflammation and turning on genes that help muscles heal. The study, conducted by a Canadian team, found that “massage suppresses the inflammation that follows exercise while promoting faster healing”.
What’s more, massage feels great when you’re suffering from sore hamstrings or back muscles. The immediate relief you feel can be worth the cost of a treatment.
One of the best things about massage is you can perform it almost anywhere, using something as simple as a tennis ball, or even your hands. After a workout or yoga routine, allow an extra five minutes to apply some gentle pressure to the muscles you have used the most. This will help them recover more quickly and lead to better physical performance.
Alternatively, treat yourself and book in for a heavenly relaxation massage. At The Temple Skincare & Spa, you can choose from a stress relief massage, aromatherapy massage or a native oil & white stone massage. Put yourself in the hands of an experienced therapist and take the time to truly relax.
Yoga + massage: a match made in heaven
Adding yoga to your regular routine along with massage means you’ll be far more relaxed and able to face the challenges life throws at you.
To feel comfortable and look great during your yoga practice, take a look at Yoga Doll Designer Activewear. You can expect to find high-performance activewear and stylish yoga wear, plus gym leggings, printed leggings and other active clothing.

There’s more to being beautiful than beauty treatments. If you want to see lasting results, you’ll need to take a holistic approach.
You’ve probably heard the saying that beauty comes from within. However, when you’re an everyday woman who is endlessly busy and doesn’t have a lot of time to think about feeling beautiful, it can be a struggle to bring your inner light and energy to the surface.
At The Temple Skincare and Spa, we take a holistic approach to beauty, meaning we want it to be far more than skin deep. We’re motivated to support your entire wellness journey so you feel and look good, inside and out.
Looking good starts inside
No amount of makeup or face creams can cover the fact that you’re not feeling great. If you’re stressed, lacking sleep and not eating well, your friends will pick up on your lack of energy and start asking if you’re okay.
When you’re not physically healthy or feeling positive about yourself, your body is more than happy to show it—with dark circles and bags under your eyes, acne breakouts, dry skin and lacklustre hair. To get back to looking fresh and revitalised, you need a whole body (and mind) approach.
How to be beautiful, inside and out
Step 1: Start eating better
While the occasional cheat meal is okay (and even recommended), your body ultimately needs the nutrients that come from good old wholesome foods.
Try to incorporate more lean meats, fruits, vegetables and healthy grains into your diet, while cutting back on excess sugar, salt and questionable additives.
Don’t know where to shop for nutrient-rich options? The Source Bulk Foods is a great place to start, with the nearest location to the Hills District being Rouse Hill. You’ll not only find quality ingredients, you’ll be able to bring your own containers for a zero-waste shopping experience.
If you want to keep your skin young-looking, don’t forget to drink ample amounts of water throughout the day. Your skin requires a steady supply of hydration to maintain its elasticity.
Step 2: Start moving more
Regular exercise is not only good for looking fitter and more athletic, but also for having healthy skin.
Aside from improving your circulation, which helps nourish your skin cells, regular physical activity triggers your body to release more endorphins, helping you combat stress by literally making you feel happier.
Couple this with mindfulness-promoting activities and less intense workouts like yoga and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a more positive and relaxed life.
The good news is you don’t have to sign up for a membership at a number of different facilities to stay on top of your fitness and wellbeing. We recommend Real Fitness Training in Castle Hill as our preferred studio for personal training, yoga, meditation and dietary advice.
An added element that will have you feeling good about working out is quality, stylish activewear. At The Temple Skincare & Spa, we’re addicted to Yogadoll Activewear (now Lacera Activewear) because of its vibrant designs and ‘for Mums by Mums’ range.
Step 3: Make de-stressing a regular part of your life
Massages, aromatherapy and spa treatments are all known to help with stress relief. When you feel better about yourself and what’s going on in your life, you’re more likely to radiate positive energy, which will have your friends commenting on how great you look.
The Temple Skincare & Spa team is obsessed with helping our clients unwind. We offer a wide assortment of massages—some with aromatherapy incorporated—and spa treatments. These are specially designed to help you bounce back fully rejuvenated from even the most stressful of days.
Step 4: Top it all off with beauty treatments
Once you’ve got steps one through three down, that’s the time to explore beauty treatments to add the icing to your inner-glow cake.
These treatments aren’t meant to replace a healthy lifestyle. Instead, they give you that extra boost towards having clearer, younger-looking skin, realising your beauty goals and feeling your best both inside and out.
Start by combining beauty and relaxation with a Mindfulness Facial Treatment using the the Aromatherapy Associates spa and skincare line. This luxurious time-out includes meditation as part of your facial experience.
To be truly beautiful, you need a holistic approach
Beauty treatments are just a small part of being truly beautiful. If you want lasting results, self care and taking the time to unwind are all part of the equation.
This means a healthy diet, ample amounts of exercise and time spent doing the things you enjoy.

Salon/Spa of the Year Australia is awarded by the ABIAs (Australian Beauty Industry Awards) to Temple Skincare & Spa as an industry standard for excellence.
Temple Skincare & Spa comes out on top with its fourth straight win for the coveted national ABIA Best Salon/Spa of the Year and Salon/Spa of the Year NSW (4 treatment rooms and under), awarded in 25 August 2019 during the gala night at The Star, Sydney.
Temple Skincare & Spa founder and Managing Director, Rene Herald says, “I am so grateful, from the bottom of my heart. I am completely honoured and privileged…and grateful to my team, because without them, I’m not a one-man-band, I am only as strong as my team is. They walk up to work every day, giving a hundred percent to their team.”
“The culture of Temple Skincare & Spa is an extension of who I am as a person. It is one of the platforms I have been privileged to create from the ground up to provide a healing space for clients and staff alike. We are all on a journey to be the best version of ourselves and for me, part of that journey is about building relationships and making a difference in a way that makes someone’s life a little better than it was before. Love and Kindness is a wonderful guiding light and is central to the way I conduct business and life.”
The ABIA Prestige
The ABIA is the only National Business awards-giving body in the beauty industry, recognising salons and spas, business owners, artists and individuals with exemplary contributions to the industry. Honouring the best of the best, the ABIA is the most coveted accolade in the industry.
This year, they have beefed up the panel of judges due to the growing number of entries. They have also reintroduced the AMIAs (Australian Make-Up Industry Awards), recognising the artistry of stylists and beauty experts throughout the country.
The Best Salon and Spas in the country compete in two size levels — 4 treatment rooms or less and 5 treatment rooms or more. Winners are selected state-wide and among these winners, the two overall Australian Winners are announced on the night, chosen from the State winners and based on judging points.
Two new categories were added this year as well — Best Eco Salon of Australia and also the Best Business Performance of the Year from a non-salon entrant.
State Wholesalers of the Year were selected from an earlier voting poll and the overall Australian Winner announced at the gala.
Another anticipated award is the ABIA Hall of Fame, along with 29 other categories.
Love and Kindness Business Model
It is observable the moment you step into Temple Skincare, or when meeting Rene and the Temple Team, that the brand is rooted in exceptional customer service; innovation; love and kindness; ongoing education for staff and clients; and, providing access to high quality technology, products and services that deliver results.
Rene adds, “We see the success of each team member as part of the global success of Temple Skincare. When team members are happy, motivated and rewarded, their clients sense the passion and love the therapists have for both the business and their work.”
Love and kindness also translates in the community work that they do. This year, they have partnered up with Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands as their official charity in their Temple Hearts program. To date, they have raised thousands of dollars to help homeless families and feed indigent schoolchildren in their area.
Not Your Average Day Spa
The Temple Skincare & Spa combines the latest dermal technologies with the holistic. Each treatment aims not only to pamper a client with the day spa offerings, but to advise, heal and bring each customer closer to their skin and body goals.
Each client is treated as part of the Temple Family, like a tribe of women that cares for and nurtures each other, without judgement and focussed on creating a refuge to relax and uplift one’s soul.
Aside from the daily demands of the day spa and medispa, Temple Skincare & Spa also curates spa and wellness programs for their clientele.
Some notable programs that have been newly launched this year include Temple Retreats, providing luxurious wellness escapes for Temple clients. For younger clientele, they offer Skin School that is a hands on, fun and supportive workshop designed to teach teens to care for their skin for life. Having had success with this event, they are now the National Ambassadors for this program
Knowing more and more about Temple Skincare, it becomes evident why they consistently bag the highest recognition from the ABIAs year after year.

Give yourself a beauty and skincare boost with these five simple steps for clearer, healthier skin. They’re ideal for someone who is always on the go.
These days, almost everyone is leading a busy life! With so much going on, it is easy for looking after yourself to fall off your to-do list.
Kids, shopping, life admin, work, planning, cooking, walking the dog, these all take time and it can be hard to find a few minutes for a beauty boost.
However, all that busyness can take its toll on your skin. Not only do you start to feel more tired, you look tired, which can impact your self-esteem and drag your energy down further.
Luckily, there are many simple things you can be doing for your skin that can have you looking more vibrant while having other flow-on health benefits.
Even the most flat-out people can add these five habits to their routine for a beauty boost and better-looking skin. Just follow the steps:
Drink enough water
Hydrated skin is healthy and happy skin so as much as you can, reach for water.
One way to up your water intake is to take a reusable water bottle wherever you go. You might make it more interesting with lemons and mint to inspire you to drink more.
Water gives you energy, delays hunger pangs and keeps your whole body hydrated. Your skin will appear more full and less dull when you have had enough water each day.
Get enough sleep
Even for the busiest people, sleep should be a top priority. Not only do you look older when you’re tired, it is harder to get as much done each day.
Studies show that screens keep our minds awake for longer so to sleep more and sleep better, consider going screen free after a set time each night. Perhaps you can experiment with taking everything out of your bedroom that might distract you, especially your phone.
Other ways to slow our brains down include reading a hard copy book, listening to gentle music, or taking guided meditation before you head to bed.
While the secret to some people’s success is less sleep, the truth is for most of us it is the reverse. Sleep well and you’ll look fresher and be able to achieve more.
Buy nice, not twice
There are a lot of skin care products on the market and some women feel so overwhelmed that they buy them all and never use them, or skip them completely.
If you’re short on time, our tip is to invest in a few quality products rather than a stack of cheap stuff you’ll never use. By opting for quality, you’re also not sending products and packaging to landfill. And you save time spent researching yet another option — one less thing to think about.
During your next visit to The Temple Skincare & Spa, talk to us about which products are recommended to incorporate into your daily routine. We’ll let you know what suits your skin best.
Keep your skin-cleansing products in the shower so you can quickly wash your face without having to add more time to your morning routine. At night, have some quality cream by your bed or next to your toothbrush so putting it on becomes automatic.
Put on a hat
Wearing a hat is perhaps one of the most simple and cost-effective ways to give yourself a beauty boost and it only takes a matter of seconds.
In a climate like Sydney’s, the abundance of sunlight can dry skin and cause premature signs of ageing. Choose a hat that makes you feel fabulous and leave it by the door. You’ll get used to putting it on whether it’s sunny or not.
Moisturising suncream
Another preventative and time-saving measure is to use a sun cream with a moisturiser. You will feel lovely and know that you are protecting your natural assets. For a daily beauty boost, keep a small tube of moisturising suncream in your handbag.
Our IMAGE range of lightweight moisturisers with built-in sunscreen will delay the sun’s effects.
Talk to us for more options
Even busy women need to look after themselves and take good care of their skin. Contact The Temple Skincare & Spa if you’d like to know which products will work best in the least time or if you finally have an hour to yourself and would like to treat yourself to a relaxing facial.
Are you tired of looking tired? For a non-invasive, pain-free spa treatment that can help you feel better about your skin, it might be time to try skin needling.
Do you look in the mirror and feel frustrated because what you see doesn’t match the way you feel inside? For many of us, a busy lifestyle combined with a lifetime of sun exposure and the unavoidable consequences of ageing means we look tired or cross when we’re not. It comes as no surprise that the desire to slow down the effects of ageing is becoming mainstream and expanding into a multi-billion dollar industry around the world. As people strive to find new ways to revitalise dull, lifeless skin, more and more people are turning to the option of spa treatments like skin needling, which is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).
Skin needling is quick and cost-effective. You may be surprised at how many everyday people drop into The Temple Skincare & Spa, requesting this spa treatment to feel better about their skin and to achieve their skin goals.

What is skin needling and how does it work?
Electronic skin needling uses a revolutionary medical procedure that is clinically proven to stimulate natural tissue regeneration. This is called a collagen response. As the needles puncture the skin, your body goes into healing mode and two things happen:
- Your body produces collagen and elastin which helps your skin look firmer and smoother
- Cell renewal takes place, which can even out your skin tone
This spa treatment can be used to treat a range of concerns such as wrinkles, crepey skin, open pores, pigmentation, stretch marks or scarring. It is available for clients of all ages.
Is it painful?
At the mention of needles, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this procedure is painful and possibly even causes bleeding. Happily, neither is true (we wouldn’t recommend it if it were)!
The needles used in skin needling at our Castle Hill Medi Spa are microscopic and are gently rolled over your skin for under 30 minutes. The procedure causes little to no discomfort and only a temporary redness and minor swelling for a day. As the needles are applied over the skin, tiny punctures are created within the epidermis and dermis that encourage the skin’s own natural healing reaction. Meanwhile, you’ll notice astonishing results within four weeks and your skin will continue to improve over the following months.
Normally, your therapist will check and go over a few ground rules, like ensuring that you hadn’t had any filler or Botox for at least four weeks prior to the procedure. This is because cosmetic needling can break Botox or filler down and also potentially move filler around.
You can expect no soreness and no blood, but the skin will appear quite red and flushed only for a day or two.

Why choose skin needling over other skin treatments?
So many facial skin treatments are available to help us manage our skin so we can feel more confident without having to wear a lot of makeup. These include dermal fillers, lasering, HIFU, LED and chemical peels.
The advantages of skin needling over some of these other skin-enhancing treatments are:
- Minimally invasive
- More comfortable than other, more aggressive treatments
- Low risk with a short recovery time
- More cost-effective than fractional laser-surfacing (according to the International Dermal Institute)

How do I know if it works?
After the procedure, your therapist will normally advise you to not use make-up on the treated area for 24 hours after, and a skincare serum will be recommended as part of the post-procedure skincare. Sunscreen with 50 SPF is to be applied from 12 hours after the procedure every day and to limit sun exposure for at least 28 days because the skin is very sensitive after the treatment.
In terms of results, skin needling, is like a “mini facelift” treating fine lines, pigmentation, uneven skin tone and texture. You can expect your skin to feel tighter straight away with the results becoming more evident around three-to-six weeks later.
Rest assured too that as stated in a recent study skin needling is a “safe, minimally invasive, and effective esthetic treatment for several different dermatologic conditions.”
If you research the technique, you’ll find plenty of peer-reviewed research, including this report which finds “micro needling is an effective modality of treatment.”

Skin needling before & after — how many treatments will it take to notice a difference?
After the redness subsides, the treated area which may have appeared pretty dry before the treatment, will look really refreshed and smooth. And the results, as promised, will keep getting better.
For the best results from skin needling, the experienced practitioners at The Temple Skincare & Spa usually recommend one to three treatments, four to six weeks apart.
However, everyone has their own unique skin type. To determine the treatment you need, we will spend time with you to assess your skin and understand what you want to achieve. We can then ensure skin needling is the best treatment for you and determine how many sessions are required.

Choose the best skincare option from skin specialists in Temple Skincare medi-spa and day spa in the Hills District
More and more people from the Hills District are adding a medi-spa to their skincare rejuvenation routine, to enhance their complexion, wind back the clock, treat problem issues and feel better about themselves.
While they’re not brand new, the concept of a medi-spa is still something many people have not heard of. Take a look at what’s involved with a medi-spa vs a more traditional skin day spa.
What’s a medi-spa?
In the past, you would visit a day spa if you wanted to feel relaxed and pampered, while having nourishing treatments for your skin. If you had problem skin and issues like acne, or you wanted to investigate a procedure to look more youthful, you would head to your dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
New technology has made is possible to look younger and achieve a glowing complexion with the help of a beauty industry professional. Now, medi-spas provide skincare rejuvenation and the best of both worlds – a pampering, non-clinical experience and expertise which would usually come from a doctor.
When you visit a medi-spa, you won’t be expected to stay overnight. Treatments are gentle and short, often within the space of an hour. On almost every occasion, you will be able to drive yourself home and will not need to spend time recovering in privacy.
After your visit, you will notice results almost instantly. A clearer complexion, fewer wrinkles and even a slimmer figure can all stem from a visit to a medi-spa.

Temple Medi-spa skincare: what you’ll find
When you visit a day spa, you can book a facial, manicure, massage or other relaxing treatment, to be applied by a beauty professional or massage therapist.
Across at the medi-spa (Temple Skincare & Spa in Castle Hill is home to both), you will find a medically qualified professional overseeing more complex procedures. These can include the following:
RF Face plumping to help you reshape your face and look younger
Gravity and sun damage takes their toll over time, and our skin looks a little less supple than when we were younger. CoaxMED technology is the solution to lift skin.
This latest technology, imported from Italy, is the natural alternative to anti-wrinkle injections and fillers! The technology uses radio frequency and cavitational waves to cause the collagen in the deeper dermis to contract. This creates a natural lift, firming and tightening the skin. Because this is gentle and non-invasive, it is a painless and safe procedure to explore.
Skin needling to treat wrinkles, scarring and stretch marks
This procedure stimulates tissue regeneration. If you suffer from uneven, dull or lifeless skin, wrinkles, open pores, pigmentation or scarring, this skincare medi-spa procedure may be your solution.
Electronic skin needling uses a revolutionary medical device that offers results comparable to lasers such as fractional laser. Needling though, does not cause any damage to tissue. Case studies show that this skin needling is clinically proven to induce a collagen response. Your body will start to naturally regenerate the skin working below the surface of the dermis to form new collagen and elastin fibres. New skin cells are stimulated and new capillaries form to improve the blood supply. This procedure is called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).

While “needling” may cause one to squirm, these treatments are completely painless!
In only 6 weeks, you will begin to see the results. Most skins will need around 3 treatments, being 6-8 weeks apart.
Acne skincare programs to reduce acne and scarring
Teens and adults alike suffer from skin problems like acne. It can be a traumatic experience for a young teen to struggle with bouts of acne. Even adults (males especially) are prone to this as well and skincare regimes can be harsh and often lead to disappointing results.
Temple Skincare & Spa has an acne skin programme where our specialist uses therapies of deep cleansing facials. Peels, LED lights, medical massage and oxygen facials also help to control acne flare-ups.

Skin peeling skincare to treat dry, aging and pigmented skin
Skin peels gently exfoliate and leave skin fresh, smooth and bright. This is especially important in winter or when exposed to weather that easily dehydrates our skin. There is a variety of advanced skin peels that your senior therapist could advise. Some of the issues we can treat are dry and ageing; sun-damaged and pigmented; congested and thickened skins. Peels can also be used to simply soften and refine to reveal your younger looking skin beneath.

Cryolipolisis to sculpt a leaner figure
Cryolipolysis technology has been sculpting bodies for over 10 years. Our Coaxmed Ice is a complete medi-spa, non-surgical option for a toned and leaner figure. Using this procedure will help in getting rid of bumpy cellulite for smooth and firmed-up skin. It does this by reducing localised pockets of fat. It also encourages lymphatic drainage to shape and reduce excess fat. We achieve this by using Fat Freezing or Cavitation techniques (radiofrequency and low frequency ultrasound).
- Fat Freezing
The intense cold from Fat Freezing reduces fat deposits. It then slowly dissolves without causing any trauma or injury to the surrounding tissues. Each medi-spa Fat Freezing session is able to get rid of 20% of fat cells in the area being treated. The best news is that once the stubborn fat cells are destroyed, they never return!
- Body-smoothing
Cavitation on the other hand, uses mechanical vibration that causes disruption of fibrosis and fat cells. As a result, reactivated blood microcirculation occurs. Waste fat is then expelled through the natural metabolism process. The radio frequency drains the adipocyte (fat cell), whilst the ultrasound waves permanently remove the waste for the body metabolism and lymphatic system to eliminate. This gives you a smooth cellulite-free and reshaped bulky fatty areas.
Every treatment is applied by an experienced and knowledgeable professional so you know you’re in the best of hands. Temple Skincare & Spa will work with you to put together a treatment plan to achieve your skin rejuvenation goals.

Day Spa: what you can try
Meanwhile, at the day spa, you can expect to relax and be pampered. Some of the treatments on offer include:
Collagen infusing facials
The result is immediate hydration, soft and radiant skin with a healthy glow. Collagen infusing facials are especially designed to deliver a boost of hydration to dry skin. The facial also comes with a thorough cleanse and exfoliation. This prepares the skin to receive the nutrients and moisture needed. Then, a relaxing facial massage follows and a hydration mask. This treatment finishes with moisture protection, revealing skin that is instantly plump, dewy and healthy.
Age-defying facials
Turn back the clock and transform your skin with a variety of anti-ageing treatments. We start with an invigorating facial massage and incredible pearly rubber-setting mask. This creates younger cells and reverses the ageing process! This treatment is best for skin that is often exposed to the sun and pollution. After a single treatment, your skin will be noticeably firmer moisutrised and rejuvenated.

Medi-spa or day spa?
If you’re interested in beauty treatments or in making changes to your skin, the best step to take is to give your local spa house a call. Talk to the people there about what you are after or book a consultation to find out the best treatments for what you need.
At The Temple Skincare & Spa, we have many devoted clients at both our day-spa and medi-spa.
The day-spa is a popular destination for hens parties, mothers day gifts, regular massages and indulgent holiday packages. The Day Spa offers divine rituals to soothe the soul and bring you back to balance so you emerge relaxed and renewed. Guests often also stay for High Tea at the Hills Lodge Hotel.
Our medi-spa clients often book regular treatments or a series of treatments to overcome a problem which is plaguing them, be it a few wrinkles, some scarring, extra weight or a sagging neckline. Before we begin treatment, we always work on a plan with an optimum outcome in mind.

Rene sits with Matt Williams, Director/CEO of Professional Beauty Solutions, to talk business and the key to the success of Temple day spa
Beauty and skincare industry giant, PBS, recently conducted an interview with Rene Herald, Temple Skincare & Spa Owner/Managing Director, reflecting on the successes of Temple day spa, plus the company values and culture that ensures that their clients become part of the Temple Family.
With skincare salons or day spas (Sydney especially) a dime a dozen, there is a unique few where service to clients are impeccable and where the behind the scenes operations stand out. Rene’s more than 25 years experience in the industry and her 17 years of running the Temple day spa, she has managed to steer the company though many successes along the way. Her tireless passion as a therapist and in business is infectious. It is easy to see why many new salon owners and even peers see her as a mentor.
Now we’re here to talk about all things business, but I want to open by saying, one of the things I love getting together with you and talking about business, and you are one of our standout panel members, in our recent Skin Summit, you got so much praise for your, you know the word that kept coming up was? Authenticity. And for every idea that I can give you, I feel like you give me two back, which I love. So we were discussing where people should really start… And, one of the things that you mentioned, is that sometimes when you’re mentoring clients, you begin with the mission, the vision and the values of the business. So tell us why that’s important.
If you’re running your day spa business without a clear vision of where you want it to go or even what your core values are behind your business, you’re kind of running by default, and going round and round in circles. You don’t really have a clear picture in your mind what your brand needs to become, so how can you then instill to your staff members how you want them to behave, what your brand to reflect, and all the other behaviour that goes with that, to kind of stay true to who you are as a brand.
I would start by writing a vision first. And your vision could be from four years from now AND, and then you write the story of actually where you’re going to be. Because if you are writing as though it’s already happened, you’re feeling it, you’re living it, what does it look like, what does it smell like, you know… how does it feel to be successful where you want your day spa to be, then it is more likely to happen than if it was a fairy tale as such.
Think to yourself, what is your purpose? So why am I actually in business? My purpose is actually clear to me now. And it never was before, it never was before, it was just kind of, “oh I just feel like it…,” I didn’t quite see. My purpose is probably not as magical as other people’s but it’s real from my distance. So mine will be basically, the first reason why I’m in Temple day spa, why it’s important for me to hit targets and make money every day and every year is because I want to be able to have money to be able to give my children and my family experiences. So I want to now, be able to be on the holidays that we can afford to do. Like I’ve got an amazing family, and I’ve mentioned on the panel that this is my second marriage and you know, I love the husband that I’m with and I love my children and I want that unit to be able to enjoy experiences in life. So to do that, I have to make money.
The second thing, part of my purpose is I want to make money because I want to be able to provide for people that have less than me. So 10-20% of all my turnover in Temple day spa then goes towards charities, in supporting things like Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands, B1G1, Hands Across the Water, whatever it is that I choose to support. That’s kind of giving to people that are in less situation. And then the last part of my purpose why I get up and do what I do, and why it’s so important to me to make money is to empower my team. So I love to see everyone around me grow as much as I do. So that’s empowering them with education. It’s empowering them with rewards. And motivating them like they’re amazing and worthy therapists that they are. So that’s definitely three reasons why I have a purpose in doing it.
I like that. In fact if I think about the salon owners watching, to break that down — money, meaning and freedom as well. Because sometimes, people can get a little funny about, oh should money be the motivator. And it shouldn’t be, like money is important, but as long as you’re backing it up with meaning. I think that’s one of the really nice things about having money, is being able to give back and being able to change lives with what might seem a little bit to you, but can be life transforming for them which is also what a charity is for as well.
The thing is with your purpose is that it has to be bigger than just you. It can’t be just about money. ‘Cause when the money is gone, then your passion for your business is gone too.
It has to be a bigger driver. For me, it’s about helping others around me. So now, if I make money, then I can help people like my family. I can help my loved ones in my circle. I can help other people that may need a little bit of help. It’s not about me so I can sip pina coladas somewhere. It’s about giving me the tools that I can then spread to other people around me. And then also having the money to help charities and people in need.
And I think that’s where also your vision comes down to where you want to be. And then, how do I get there?
I like that you jump forward four years? Why four?
Jump forward four years. Because I feel like that’s not too long that it becomes like a fairy tale. And it’s not too close that I panic, holy cow, how do I do that in a year?!
It’s kind of like, between two and four. Sometimes when I write my vision I will change it to two. Because every now and then in Temple day spa, I’ll get a little bit…itchy feet, where “I think now, I should to do this idea, now I should do that idea…” And then, some of these things that come up are actually really great and viable income streams as well. So I’ll do it, which means that my vision will have to slightly change. But four years is a really good benchmark.
Now, that final point of this vision, mission is, the values. Tell us about your values at the Temple.
We write our values down obviously and it’s part of our induction period. It’s part of my hiring process even, and then the induction period, because I can train you to become excellent, skill-sets that you need to do a job. But I can’t train you to be kind, to be nurturing, you know, that sort of thing. So it’s really important that you do hire for values. But you can’t hire for values if you don’t know what they are.
I write my values down and with each value they become a behaviour as well because every value that you have you want then your staff to behave a certain way to reflect that. Does that make sense? So you can write it down as well. My values for my business is definitely Family is Everything. That’s our first one because everybody that knows me will understand that from the day I open my doors, I want my clients, I want my staff members, I want my family, I want my friendship circle… I like, I’m a very relationship person… I want people around me to feel like they’re family and make them feel worthy and loved and so Family is Everything is our first value.
Second thing is professionalism. Professionalism is very important at Temple day spa, obviously because that comes with the behaviour I want my team to treat their clients. Love and kindness, is another one. And again, anyone that knows me knows that I say this all the time especially to my kids, “Love and kindness! (laughs) so and so…”
Love and kindness is definitely one of my values and then, honesty and integrity. And they’re values that come from my personal values because you can’t pretend to be something that you’re not. Honesty and integrity is one of my values, but what does that mean for the business? It means that when my therapist is sitting with a client they’re prescribing skincare, they’re not selling them something that they don’t need.
They’re not telling the client, just sign up for a package that is not needed for their skin, they’re being honest, they’re acting professional and they’re doing everything with integrity.
I love what you said, how can [salon or day spa owners] get more information on that?
Business Beyond Beauty is a mentoring program that my husband, Justin Herald, and I do. He’s been in business for over 20 years, he’s done great work for Attitude. He’s a business owner with me as well and it’s for the hair and beauty industry. Having 26 years in the beauty industry and having had my business for 17 years now, I’ve attended loads and loads of, business courses as well as industry courses, made huge wins and huge losses in business and through that becomes growth. And in the business basically, we are mentoring clients in the hair and beauty industry to be the most successful and sustainable business that they can. A lot of the therapists will be amazing at their craft will start their own day spa business and unfortunately no one’s ever taught them the art of business and the skill set that it takes to actually have a long term, profitable business where they are not just churning the wheel all the time, you know?
Nobody teaches you that. And so Business Beyond Beauty just takes you to that next level. Maybe you’ve got a great business already and just don’t know quite how to get to that next level. It can be anything from pricing and profitability, to policy and procedures, manuals and assistance, systems, issues…Anything that they need so they’re living their purpose and they’re actually reaching their business goals.
And there’s one other thing, which I think is an absolute treat, but well, pardon the pun there but let’s talk about Temple Retreats.
Temple Retreats is for women in business, women who have professional roles in a business so CEOs, CFOs, managing Directors, that sort of thing. And it’s basically what we’re doing is five-star experiential retreats. The first one is in September in Spain and the next one will be next September in Spain because we have such a high demand of people wanting to enrol in that one. All the things that basically, you want to do on holidays that your husband winges about. [We’re] doing a personal stylist consultation with amazing day spas all through Spain, starting in Barcelona, then Valencia, and then Madrid. We’ve got an Arabian bathhouse, magnesium pools. We’ve got shopping. We have a chef that’s coming in to teach us how to cook Spanish paella and we have a catamaran that’s taking us on a half-day sail. Beautiful stuff. Day spas, massages everyday… it’s like, heaven!
We’ll only take a maximum of 12 people. We’ve got a few people who’ve already put their names down and first in, first served for next year.
Not just salon or day spa owners, female, business owners…
Yeah, female, business owners or you don’t even have to have your own business, but a professional working woman… Somebody basically who wants to enjoy luxury, and experiences, and travel, and downtime and self-development. We’ll talk about different self-development and mindset… We’ve got a lecture from an amazing specialist on gut health and mindfulness and all that sort of stuff.
I think it’s an inspiration that anyone, even if it is a small salon, they can scale their business up get it to a point where it’s operating really well, and it’s predictable, and it’s profitable, then they can start to say, well alright, how can I then apply some other dreams or heart goals that I have inside me as well. And I think it’s extraordinary what you’ve done.
Thank you.
