FAQ CoaxMED – Radiofrequency

You may have heard that your microwave, cell phone, X-Ray equipment and most useful modern technologies emit energy called radiofrequency, so as you can imagine, radiofrequency has been extensively studied for its safety on humans and added to that the radiofrequency used in skin and body treatments is on the very low end of the electromagnetic spectrum and is highly controlled. 

The skin is heated using a flat probe, with special conducting gel which also contains active anti-ageing ingredients like hexapeptide 8 – an exciting extract that softens and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles. The surface temperature of the skin is measured with a temperature gun, with the goal to reach at least 38 degrees Celsius and to keep that temperature between 38 and 42 degrees for the duration of the treatment. You will feel heat on your skin, but nothing unbearable and your therapist will adjust the treatment setting to your comfort levels.  The entire procedure takes place in less than 1 hr and you will emerge with plump, firm skin, with wrinkle depth visibly reduced.  As a tip, drink lots of water prior to your treatment, since the technology relies on a well hydrated skin to deliver the best results and if you are thirsty, your skin is too.

This depends on your end goal, for a quick pep-up and radiant glow, just have 1 the day before your big event or special date.

A course of 6 Coax Radiofrequency treatments, will leave your skin plump and radiant for at least 6 months, however, when combined with HIFU, these results have been known to last up to 3 years. Clients who keep up regular maintenance (a visit at least once every 8 weeks) with an Anti-Ageing Facial to support their results, get the best long-term improvements that compound over time. Many of our clients look at photos from a year ago and say that they not only feel that they have stopped ageing, but that they have actually turned back the clock a few years and to us, this is the most rewarding part of what we do.

The results of having just one COAX can last up to 2 weeks, depending on the quality of your homecare routine and your lifestyle. Coax is a little like going to the gym, you can go once and look and feel great for a while or you can go often and really reap the long-term rewards.

During clinical trials involving twenty patients with active acne lesions RF was found to reduce the lesions by 42% in a program which involved 1 RF session per week for 6 weeks and when followed up 4 weeks later, their results were sustained.

The primary action of RF in the treatment of Acne is that it kills stubborn acne bacteria under the skin, thus relieving cystic nodules and reducing the severity and duration of breakouts. In addition, the heat increases circulation and boosts oxygen to the skin for regeneration and healing of blemishes.  Again, an optimal program for Acne may involve multiple approaches such as IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), a course of targeted skin peels and RF, depending on the type and severity of the Acne. 

Your skin may be slightly pink for about 30 to 60 minutes after the treatment. It will definitely look plump, healthy, and dewy, so get ready for loads of compliments!

Glad you asked. We offer RF eye and neck treatments, which can be added to any facial treatment. You don’t have to treat your whole face with RF if you only have 1 or two primary concerns. We have many clients who do lower face and neck, or upper face and eyes as well.
