Blog
As the Easter long weekend approaches, many people are looking forward to spending time outdoors, enjoying the beautiful weather and taking part in various activities to relax and unwind. However, it’s important to remember to take care of your skin during this time too.
When traveling or on a event-filled weekend, it’s easy to let your skincare regimen fall to the wayside. Stress, the sun and the elements can be quite harsh to your skin and, you don’t want to have to deal with a skin disaster when everyone else is having fun. In this blog, we’ll provide you with the ultimate guide to skincare for the Easter or any long weekend.
1. Cleanse skin day and night
Good things come to those who double cleanse as they say. Being out all day, enjoying sights and going on adventures means exposing your skin to dirt, smoke, the sun or other harmful elements. So don’t skip the cleanse in the morning, when you sweat (especially if you have oily skin) and before you go to bed at night. No one wants to deal with clogged, irritated pores and (eek!) a breakout when you should just be living your best life.
2. Wear sunscreen
This is perhaps the most important tip when it comes to skincare. The sun can be quite intense, even during the cooler months, so it’s essential to protect your skin from its harmful rays. Make sure to wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 or higher, and reapply it every two hours if you’re spending time outdoors. Even on cloudy days or even if staying indoors, harmful UV rays can still cause skin damage. Avoid premature wrinkles, sun spots or hyperpigmentation with SPF protection.
Save your skin from pollutants too, and harsh blue light. We recommend Germaine de Capuccini Excel Therapy O2 Pollution Defense Emulsion to shield your skin and keep your skin selfie-ready.
In addition to sunscreen, wearing protective clothing can also help shield your skin from the sun. Consider wearing a hat, sunglasses, and long-sleeved shirts or dresses when spending extended periods outdoors.
The sun is at its strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so it’s best to avoid spending time outdoors during these peak hours. Instead, opt for early morning or late afternoon activities when the sun’s rays are not as intense.

3. Stay hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is not only good for your overall health, but it also helps keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Be sure to carry a water bottle with you wherever you go, and aim to drink at least eight glasses of water per day. Remember that if you’re hopping on a flight on your weekend escape, or going to a destination where the air is dry, then the change in air can aggravate your skin losing moisture.
Don’t forget to bring a skin care product that’s easy to carry but ticks all the boxes for keeping your skin nourished and hydrated.
Packing light? Pure Fiji products also come in small travel sizes that can easily be stashed in your purse or pocket. This is so important because if you are staying at a hotel with skincare products your skin isn’t used to, you must remember that these are products that do not address your specific skin concern or even your skin type.

4. Boost radiance
Take as many selfies and reels as you want with your glowing skin. The secret? Boost your skin nutrition with Vitamin C. Dull or fatigued skin is a major no-no especially when taking snaps for making memories.
Vitamin C helps to protect your skin, lighten dark spots, even your skin tone, boost collagen and promote healing so that your skin remains healthy and easily bounces back from damage. Collagen keeps skin firm and tight. Over time we begin to lose collagen and the skin begins to sag. So it’s always a good idea to bring a Vitamin C serum or moisturiser with you.
5. Pack some sheet masks
One or two hydrating sheet masks can definitely make a difference when on a trip. They’re easy, lightweight and are excellent substitutes for the serums and special creams that you would normally use at home.
If you’re going to a big event or party, giving your skin some sheet-mask-therapy before or after will make a world of difference in maintaining glowing, supple skin.
Of course, if the mission is to spend some me-time curled up in your cozy home, then a mini-sheet mask facial is a wonderful and relaxing idea. Make it special by adding intention to clear the mind and leave tensions behind. Light a candle, play some soothing music and spritz some aromatherapy scents to set the mood.
What you’ll need:
- Body scrub, shower gel, hydrating body lotion
- Facial exfoliating scrub
- Sheet masks
- Eye cream
- Moisturiser
- Crystal roller
All of these are available in our online shop and can be shipped right to your doorstep if you need to restock. Begin your self care moment with a rejuvenating body scrub, shower gel and hydrating body lotion ritual. Enjoy some girlie time doing your at-home mini facial next. Start with an exfoliating scrub, then proceed with a soothing and hydrating sheet mask. Massage with a crystal roller, applying gentle pressure and using an upward motion. After 15 minutes, remove the mask and apply your eye and face cream. Use the crystal roller again, this time on pulse points and then enjoy a restful sleep.
At Temple our Pure Fiji crystal rollers help to bring balance to the body’s energies, heals negative auras and soothes communication or emotional blockages. Studies have shown that facial massage can decrease anxiety. Moreover, facial rollers stimulate the lymphatic system so the body can get rid of toxins. It also improves circulation and promotes anti-ageing effects. For an extra anti-inflammation hack, leave the roller in the fridge to cool before use.
6. Avoid hot showers
Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated. Instead, take lukewarm showers and avoid using harsh soaps or body washes that can further dry out your skin.
7. Get enough rest
Getting enough sleep is crucial for healthy skin. Aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night to help your skin repair and regenerate. The eyes are the first to show fatigue so make sure that you pay extra attention to the skin under your eyes. Treat with a nourishing gel or repair cream.
Also, the skin does not do well under stress — this includes the stress from late nights, lack of sleep, overindulgence on alcohol, sweets or greasy food. It’s called beauty sleep for a reason!

8. Fit in a Detox session
After a long weekend of indulgence, a detox treatment at Temple is just the thing to help get rid of bloating, sluggishness and to keep the good vibes from the holiday going. (TIP: It’s a good idea to schedule this ahead before you go on vacay so there won’t be any disappointments with booking highly sought-after appointments at Temple).
The lymphatic system filters debris from the body in vessels and nodes. Stimulating the lymph helps to improve the flow of fluids throughout the body and therefore reduce swelling and congestion. Aside from experiencing relaxation, detoxing the lymphatic system also improves immunity and overall wellness. The skin benefits from improved texture and lessened cellulite, skin swelling, scar tissue, acne, and stretch marks. The list goes on!
And there you have it… Taking care of yourself during the Easter or any long weekend is crucial for maintaining healthy and glowing skin. By following these tips, you can protect your skin from the harsh sun, pollutants, toxins, as well as keep it hydrated and healthy.
Enjoy your long weekend!
It’s 21 Years of Temple Skincare & Spa! It’s where advanced skin treatments meet the holistic touch in every moment of Beauty, Pampering and Rejuvenation.
In celebrating 21 years in business, Owner and Director Rene Herald says that, “it makes me teary thinking about the journey to what Temple is now. This milestone is a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional skincare and spa services to our clients. We have a strong team and it will only get better and better in the years to come. We couldn’t be more excited!”
How it all started
Temple Skincare & Spa was founded in 2002 by Rene Herald, who had a vision to create a unique beauty spa that combined the high end clinical treatments to rejuvenate every skin concern, with luxurious spa treatments to bring about nurturing and relaxation for clients to escape from their busy lives and rebalance their soul.
Rene continues, “the last 21 years of the Temple Skincare & Spa feels like it has flown by, however, when I actually think back to where, when and how it all started, it feels like a lifetime ago.”
“Coming from humble (perhaps even naive) beginnings, with having absolutely no idea how to even begin running a business and starting with a two-man-band of Sarah and I, soon bringing Mumma Temple on board. I was doing my own marketing artwork in a word document as I had no clue nor money… there were dolphin murals on the walls… solariums everywhere… And I thought it was a great idea to fall pregnant with my first child, Chloe, after only been in business for six months (again naive). I had bad hairstyles but great skincare knowledge and a passion for my craft.”

Facial Rejuvenation through non-invasive, non-surgical treatments are possible, with results that are just as stunning as injectables or going under the knife.
For many clients, surgery is just not an option because of problems with scarring, keloids or allergies and adverse reactions to anaesthestics. However, this should not be a deterrent for any woman who would like to experience and enjoy facial rejuvenation. Nowadays, technologies in skin care, transformation and treatment have highly evolved; offering choices for every skin, lifestyle or outcome desired.
Skin Rejuvenation
In our 20s, our bodies begin to lose collagen at a rate of 1% per year. It is collagen and elastin fibres that form the scaffolding-like structure that keeps skin firm and voluminous. The lack of collagen causes skin to lose its elasticity and makes skin prone to wrinkles. Dead skin cells also increasingly accumulate and stick for longer periods of time, making skin look dull and lifeless.
By the time we reach our 30s, moisture between the dermis and the epidermis slows down and makes the skin susceptible to dryness and loss of radiance. Less sebum is also produced which makes wrinkles appear more visible.
Read more about Collagen here.
At 40, collagen production stops, weakening the fibres so that they become stiff and break. Cell renewal also slows down and cells are difficult to regenerate. In our 50s, we start to lose fat in the subcutaneous layer resulting in thinning skin that is prone to damage. Blood vessels also decline and blood circulation suffers, thus affecting complexion.
Coupled with extrinsic factors like sun exposure, smoking, and pollution, skin concerns like pigmentation, sagging skin and the like can increase the signs of ageing on skin.
Skin rejuvenation techniques and practices help to slow the process and give the skin the optimum chance to remain healthy, plump, glowing and hydrated. Simply put, it’s an extra step of TLC that you can do for your skin!
At Temple, there are a variety of skincare modalities, carried out by our highly-trained senior therapists who take on a holistic, caring and supportive approach. We make sure that we only give advice and recommend procedures that are customised to your skin, and that will benefit you in achieving your skin goals. Among the results that can be expected from Facial Rejuvenation include the reducing of wrinkles, minimizing spider veins, controlling rosacea, diminishing hyperpigmentation, smoothening acne scars, lifting and tightening, improving hydration and an overall healthier and glowing complexion.
Medispa Facials
Needless to say, regular appointments with your Temple Therapist is a must. With Temple’s Visia Digital Analysis, we will be able to see deeper into the skin and plan a bespoke skin care treatment plan for you. Depending on need, your Temple Therapist may recommend medispa modalities like peels, a Rejuvenation Facial, the Better than Botox Facial, or maybe some laser. Frequent and consistent LED Light Therapy, either as a boost to your facial treatment or via the portable Dermalux Flex for home use can do wonders. Results are cumulative, so it’s important to be consistent.
Intensive Treatments and Programmes
For more advanced skin rejuvenation needs, a course of Skin Needling, HIFU Lifting, Plasma (for drooping eyelids for example), or radiofrequency technology may be advised to address moderate or severe ageing skin conditions.
Read here to find out if HIFU can make you look old.
However, for a comprehensive, holistic and truly revolutionary approach to anti-ageing and non-surgical procedures, the Divine Pro Facial comes highly recommended. It’s especially favoured by clinicians and aestheticians worldwide for it’s safety, efficiency and stunning immediate results. The Pollogen Divine Pro is a multi-function toolkit that can be used to tighten skin, reduce fine lines, volumise and plump your complexion, resurface rough skin texture, renew skin structure, firm, lift and rejuvenate. Results are visible as soon as your treatments complete and will continue to get better for weeks after.
Rene Herald, Temple Skincare & Spa Owner/Director approves, “At Temple we pride ourselves on bringing you the latest and greatest in regards to advanced technology as we believe you deserve only the best to help guide you to your best skin yet! We are super excited to introduce to you the Divine Pro Device which is a little device that packs a lot of punch with results for anti ageing, wrinkles, loss of volume, scarring and stretch marks.
“This new technology is at the forefront of our industry offering multiple types of treatments such as RF Tripollar Skin Tightening, RF Micro-Needling, RF Voluderm Needling, and DMA muscle toning. At Temple we have always believed in combination therapies to really be able to personalise and customise your treatment program to what YOUR skin needs and that’s why we offer amazing results in all we do.”

The Divine Pro Facial & Programme addresses three essential needs for ageing or mature skins:
- Collagen for structure
- Elastin for resilience and elasticity
- Hyaluronic acid to hydrate, plump and smoothe your skin
This is achieved without any foreign ingredients, filler or substances that will irritate the skin. The treatment process revitalises the skin’s natural structure to stimulate and strengthen collagen, elastin and hydration. Overall, we are able to provide customised treatment that is safe and clinically proven, with minimal discomfort and downtime. How?… with the following technologies that are used both as a corrective and a prevention treatment:
- RF Tripollar Skin Tightening – The radiofrequency targets the lower dermis for non-invasive collagen & elastin production for dermal volumising, smoothed fine lines and skin rejuvenation
- Dynamic Muscle Activation – DMA Targets the deepest muscle layer to tighten, tone and lift skin for the ultimate sculpted facelift effect
- Voluderm RF Skin Needling – Targets dermal volumisation to the mid dermis to improve skin volume, deeper wrinkle reduction and rejuvenation
- RF Trifractional Micro-needling – RF Micro-Needling is an advanced skin resurfacing treatment that targets the epidermis and helps with scarring, fine lines and wrinkles
We always use LED Light therapy together with the Divine Pro Facial prior to treatment to prepare the skin and to aid in skin recovery, minimising downtime to 24hrs.

These hot skincare tips for summer are just what you need for carefree fun in the sun.
Skin changes with the seasons and so should your skincare. Humid weather can lead to bacterial infections due to sweat, clogged pores and acne breakouts. Air conditioning indoors can dehydrate the skin. Sun overexposure causes damage that lead to wrinkles and accelerated signs of ageing. So each season comes with its set rules of skincare. The good news is, there are plenty of ways to enjoy summer with proper and consistent skin TLC.
1. SPF
It should go without saying, but we’ll say it anyway… Got to protect your skin from sunburn, premature ageing (wrinkles, dark spots and the breakdown of collagen that leads to saggy skin), and the threat of cancer. The Skin Cancer Foundation says that day to day use of SPF 15 can decrease an individual’s risk of melanoma by 50% and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by around 40%.
Using superior formulations of course will shield your skin more when outdoors. For example, IMAGE Skincare’s Prevention+ range gives you options for matte and tinted finishes which offer broad-spectrum protection against the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. Plus, each bottle contains Digital Aging Defense™ — a form of dual protection against blue light and environmental skin stressors that cause dryness, discoloration and other signs of ageing. The products are also reef-friendly and use only natural skincare and sun block ingredients.
Remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours or after you sweat from a workout or after a swim.

2. Tweak your skincare routine
Your skin conditions and concerns can change with the seasons. For summer, you might experience dry, irritated skin. Or, the change to hotter temperatures can trigger acne from sweat and overproduction of sebum. Then, there’s melasma or patches of discolouration on your skin that is caused by sun damage.
Take some time to evaluate your skincare routine and change to a gentler cleanser and lukewarm water in the morning and at night (more on this later). This means opting for a gel or water-based cleanser rather than heavier creams you might have used in winter. Select toners that help prevent sweat and oil from clogging pores. Also, edit your skincare products for the season and add more antioxidant ingredients (see #4 below) into your regimen.
Your skin will benefit from products rich in Vitamin C which “hunts” free radicals and prevents sun-induced hyperpigmentation from UV rays. Another important ingredient to work into your skincare routine are Skin Omegas. Skin supplements are a great idea to get the correct dosage for what our skin needs on a daily basis. Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and reduce the skin’s sensitivity to harmful UVA and UVB rays.
Check your makeup too, and switch to ones with SPF properties. Think, light… Going out with full makeup under the blazing sun can suffocate your skin. Go with a matte product that won’t crease as you enjoy your day.
3. Wear sunglasses, and a hat
Skin around the eye is very delicate so wearing sunnies with 100% UV protection help as a physical barrier from the harsh rays of the sun. Prolonged and direct exposure to UV rays can harm the cells in our eyes and cause long-term issues like: cataracts, damage to the macula (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye) that results in blurry vision, and “sunburn of the cornea.” Yes, that’s right… your eyes can also get sun burnt!
Protect not only your eyes, but also your neck, ears, scalp and face with a wide-brimmed hat when out in the sun. Dark or bright colours absorb UV rays instead of your skin. But also think about the construction of the material, whether loosely or tightly woven. TIP: hold the material up to the light and if you can see through, that’s no good.
4. Hydrate topically with Hyluaronic acid but also up the water intake internally
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) has many skin benefits, including hydration, plumping and smoothing wrinkles. In summer, HA helps to hold moisture within the skin up to 6000 times it’s molecular weight. While it is naturally produced by our bodies, factors like ageing, diet, genetics and so on, can affect how much of it goes to your skin. This is why we need to both hydrate internally and topically as an active ingredient in your skincare. Despite being an “acid”, it does not act to exfoliate and can be used for all skin types and in multiple times a day. Oily skin can also benefit from HA without the grease — it’s water-based!
An extra serving of fruits and drinking plenty of water helps to also keep the skin hydrated. If you can, avoid caffeinated drinks as these are diuretics and can cause hydration loss through urine. When exercising or spending extended time in the sun, water is still the best overall choice to keep hydrated. Nevertheless, adding fruits and vegetables to your meals and as nibbles during the day also makes a big difference. Watermelon, rock melon and strawberries are high in water content. Grapes, apples and pears are also good choices. Vegetables like cucumbers and iceberg lettuce, as well as celery, tomatoes and zucchini should be typical summer fare.
5. Don’t exfoliate before going into the sun
Over-exfoliation can cause irritation, redness, and worse, a broken skin barrier (thus, loss of moisture). During the summer months, your skin is prone to creating more oil, which means your pores are likely to become congested. Oftentimes, exfoliants with glycolic and lactic acid are recommended to tighten and tone pores. However, these can cause sensitivity when skin is exposed to the sun. Opt to exfoliate at night time.
6. Don’t forget the lip area
Your lips need love and attention too! Our absolute summer fave is the IMAGE Skincare Ormedic Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex. Not only does it softens and moisturises the lips with a light formula of avocado oil and Vitamin E, it also helps to plump for a full appearance. Oh and just as a fun fact, Hailey Bieber is a fan of the Sheer Pink version.

7. Cleanse morning and night
It’s inevitable to sweat during the scorching heat of summer. More sweat means an overproduction of sebum (an oily substance produced by the sebaceous glands in our skin). It functions to moisturise and protect the skin naturally. However, too much of it can make dirt cling to the skin and lodge into pores. Cleansing the skin at least twice a day or after your workout will help keep a clean and fresh complexion throughout the summer. How? A facial wash can rid the skin of impurities, wash away sebum and also remove dead skin cells. The stifling heat can also make the skin dull and a good cleanse is sure to put the dewy glow back on.
And there you go… embrace the adventures of summer with glowing, fresh skin throughout the season!

Must-know 12 Days of Skincare tips to make sure that your skin survives the Christmas and Holiday rush. The festive season can be a frenzy with parties and gatherings that last all the way into the night; holiday trips; and, rush shopping adventures. With more stress, and external attacks from air pollution, UV rays and pathogens, your skin can take a big hit.
Optimise your skin health with these important Christmas and Holiday Season tips to keep your skin glowing and you, ready to embrace the joys of the season.
#1 Transition your skincare products and regimen for the season
On the lead-up to the holidays, spend some time editing your skincare collection and regimen for the coming holidays. This means getting rid of makeup or skincare products that you haven’t used in the last 6 months or so. With warmer weather coming up, evaluate your SPF needs to protect your skin more from the harsh summer sun.
Christmastime will also mean huge savings on your skincare as there are often lots of SALE promotions that you can expect from your favourite brands, including at The Temple Skincare & Spa. This especially includes the Christmas Spa Packages that are beautifully luxurious and much sought-after curated Temple spa experiences.
#2 Load Up on Skin Omegas
With the festive period in full swing, it can be even trickier than usual to get a balanced diet. Making sure that you take your Omega-3 (a nutrient that can also be found in fish oils and avocados) supplements on the regular will help smooth and plump skin cells, giving your skin a luminous glow… just like an internal moisturiser! We highly recommend the Skin Omegas+ from our friends at Advanced Nutrition Programme. Their oil comes from sustainably sourced fish caught off the coast of Peru and adhering to Friends of the Seas standards as well as strict targets set by governments in terms of contaminants, heavy metal levels (for example Mercury) and fishing practices. Seriously, what’s not to love?!
#3 Cleanse twice a day
It gets hot at Christmastime and all the sweat, grime and other pollutants can clog pores. Twice-daily cleansing will help prevent the appearance of blackheads, whiteheads and other types of blemishes. In the morning, start with a light foaming cleanser and then at night, an oil-based cleanser will help to also remove your makeup.
#4 Slather on Antioxidants
Yes, buy the serum! Not only is it a much-needed and much-deserved dose of goodness for your skin, serums play a vital role in addressing skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, dullness and dehydration.
Don’t forget to eat your fruits for an antioxidant boost from the inside. Cherries, citrus, pomegranates, and watermelon can combat skin dehydration and help delay signs of ageing, prevent lacklustre skin and even control breakouts. Avocados, green tea, tomatoes, your leafy greens and bell peppers are also musts to your food shopping list . These work to protect your skin from inflammation, and nourish your skin too. Also, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
#5 Switch to a lighter moisturiser
Moisturising and using serums is always an important skincare step, but for hot summers, it’s a good idea to change your heavy cream version for a lighter gel or water-based one. This can also help in preventing the skin from being too oily (and yes, oily skin ALSO needs moisturiser).
#6 Exfoliate
Maintain a glowing complexion throughout the Christmas and summer holidays with a good exfoliation routine. Once or twice a week, exfoliate with an enzyme if you have sensitive skin, or a glycolic acid if you have dry skin. This is also great for ageing skins to strengthen the skin’s foundation. Opt for products containing salicylic acid if you have oily skin to help keep the spots away. Go either way for combination skin two or three times a week depending on what your skin needs at the time. Three times a week with an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) open up blocked pores and remove oils that result in acne. Plus they feel nice and soothing on stressed-out and sun-exposed skin.

#7 Get a Pro to do it
Your Temple Skincare & Spa aesthetician is your BFF in taking care of your skin. She knows your skin and is professionally trained to walk you through a treatment plan for skin concerns even before they happen! With the extra stress on your skin over the Christmas and the New Year, your skin needs some support that only a professional treatment can give. Whether it’s deciding on the best peel, or the best acne treatment, or simply for overall skin health, Temple Therapists are trained with post-graduate qualifications and are continuously receiving education on the latest skin technologies to make any skin journey come to fruition.
Remember to book in advance especially if you have a big event that you’re attending, too.
#8 Make sure your makeup is noncomedogenic
The goal is to always keep the skin clean and fresh. Taking care of your pores means taking a closer look at the ingredients and labels. Noncomedogenic during the summer and even in cooler months benefit to not occlude the skin and cause blemishes and breakouts.
#9 After party
It’s never a good idea to go to bed with makeup. First it traps dirt onto your skin and these pollutants can cause free radicals that speed up cell ageing and collagen degradation. It can also cause dry complexion as well as acne flare ups. Eye makeup can also lead to inflammation and redness — certainly things no one wants to wake up to. No matter how exhausted you may be from Christmas parties and gatherings, commit to your skincare routine and take the makeup off, cleanse, tone, treat and hydrate the skin before sleeping. You will wake up with skin refreshed and ready for the next event in your social calendar.
#10 SPF, SPF, SPF
Enjoy the warm weather… but with sun protection. Skin cancer is a real concern and whether indoors, outdoors or even on cloudy days, use sunscreen and use it often. This means reapplying when you get sweaty or after a swim. As a general rule, putting on your SPF every two hours when outdoors or every four indoors is best. Also stay in the shade as much as possible and be mindful to expose as little of your body as possible to direct sunlight. That might mean sitting underneath an umbrella, wearing an extra-large hat, or avoiding the midday sun.
Read the 6 Dangerous Sunscreen Mistakes here.
#11 Lip and Eye care
The lip and eye areas are different than other parts of our skin. They are much more delicate and tend to flake and dry up much faster than the skin on our face. Lips can develop wrinkles too, but often much faster and earlier than anybody would like. If you’re a smoker or someone with the habit or pursing her lips, those wrinkles can form even sooner. Dehydrated lips can also look rather shriveled or develop painful and unsightly cracks. Even its natural color can sometimes be affected.
Dark circles under the eyes can partly be caused by genetics and ageing. So make sure you’re getting good-quality sleep, managing your stress and avoiding potential irritants in your eye care products or makeup (read: parabens). To protect from hyperpigmentation and premature wrinkles, make sure you protect your skin from overexposure to UV rays.
#12 Find time for yourself to relax and decompress
If your schedule for the Christmas season can be described in one word – “hectic” – then this is all the more reason for you to get away from it all and decompress. The Holiday season should be just that — a long holiday where you can connect with friends and family members, but most especially, with oneself. Stressing out and pushing your body (and skin) to the limit will only cause more harm than good.
Block off 15 minutes daily for a simple self care ritual. Light a candle or spritz a scent into the air to signal the time for your body to relax and for your mind to focus on the moment. Listen to your favourite Christmas playlist and belt it out or move and dance. Better yet, get a massage that combines soothing scents and healing movements from the professional team at The Temple Skincare & Spa.
And there you go — 12 Days of Skincare that will ensure that not only will your heart glow with the season’s festivities, but also skin and soul.

Spring cleaning is not just for the home. Take this change of seasons to ease into updating your skincare regimen and welcome the blossoming season with healthy, radiant skin.
Skincare products and regimens need to adjust to the change of seasons, with the cold months ending (and where we focussed on hydrating and revitalising dull, lacklustre skin with peels), this season, we want to spring clean our skincare products and help our skin transition to warmer temperatures.
Spring clean your skincare stash
Take this time to take a look at what you have in stock. Throw away any product that are more than six months old and top up with fresh ones. This will ensure your skin stays healthy and the active ingredients in your skincare remain potent. Refresh with a cleanser like the Ormedic Balancing Gel Cleanser to help your skin gently transition into the new season. It’s made of organic chamomile, green tea and balances skin with essential nutrients.
Also, no matter how much we took care of our skin in winter, it would’ve still taken a toll. To help with further nourishing and protecting skin, the Vital C Hydrating Anti-ageing Serum will be an indispensable addition for spring. Since it is packed with vitamin C, this will aid in supporting and improving collagen-and-elastin-deprived skin by softening fine lines and wrinkles. It is the perfect antioxidant boost needed at this time too, protecting the skin from environmental damage that can cause dark spots and blemishes.

Clean your makeup brushes and skincare tools
Spring cleaning also means cleaning your makeup sponges and brushes, and other skincare tools. Acne loves nothing more than dirty skincare tools that breed bacteria and clog up pores! For your brushes and sponges, you can lather them up with a dishwashing soap and squeeze out all the makeup or product residue before rinsing with warm water. On the other hand, use your facial cleanser for your skincare tools to clean them. Then lay them flat on a towel to air dry.
Moisturiser revamp
You needed the heavy duty stuff for winter, but now, you can swap that out for a lighter one for spring and shield your skin from dryness. Thick creams have a tendency to leave your skin feeling greasy. Using a water-based or gel formula will allow the product to absorb more quickly. But don’t shelve your cream just yet. You can still use it for areas like your neck or body parts that need extra hydrating TLC. How much moisturiser do you need? Temple Skin Experts advise that the size of an almond will do for your face.
Up your SPF game
In winter, you might have used a cream or moisturiser with added SPF. This time, think of using a separate and higher SPF product compared to last season. Try the Prevention+ Daily Matte Moisturiser SPF 30. We love it because it soaks up skin surface oils and it can double as your makeup primer for a matte, smooth finish.

Exfoliate
Gently rub away the dullness and dryness of winter skin with an exfoliator. Not only will this brighten your skin, it will also help minimise acne breakouts by keeping pores clean and polished. Our must-have is the Ormedic Balancing Gel Polisher because it is gentle enough for daily use, but strong enough to give you results.
Safely exfoliate at home by gently but firmly rubbing the product with your fingers in a circular motion for about 30 seconds. Then, rinse with lukewarm water. You may use a soft sponge or brush, but take care not to damage your skin.
If you feel like your skin needs a bit more exfoliation, book a consult with our Skin Experts where you may consider chemical peels or professional facials.
Cool down with a Crystal Roller
Yes, we love basking in the warm, sunny weather (with a hat and SPF protection!), but if you find yourself too hot at night, a Rose Quartz Crystal is our first choice to cool down. Rose quartz stays cool naturally, but for an added refreshing boost, you can keep your roller in the fridge before using. Aside from feeling relaxation, using a rose quartz roller also stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, whilst reducing facial puffiness.

Do Sit down with a Skincare Pro
If you’re stressed, the first place it shows is on your skin (more on this later). With all there is in your to-do list at this time, you have to make doubly sure that you stick to your skincare regimen, including visits to your Temple Therapist. She’s going to be one of your besties from now on, all through the day you walk down the aisle (and beyond!). There are so many treatments she can help you with, within your budget and towards your goals. While the below recommendations may not all be needed, a consultation early on with Rene or any of our Skin Experts is a must.
- Laser Hair Removal — Be carefree on your most special day. With Temple Laser Hair Removal, we can achieve about 80% – 95% reduction in 10 sessions. Type and volume of hair growth, hereditary factors, and certain medications can affect the efficacy. Take note that no one can be 100% hairless, but we can really get close to that. There is no downtime with hair removal, just remember to shave the day before your session and not on the day, so that your skin is not sensitised before the treatment. Ideally, a laser session every four weeks works best.
- Skin Needling — Temple’s 2021 Best Skin Transformation Award winning treatment includes Skin Needling sessions to encourage the skin’s collagen production. Collagen creates the framework of your skin and tissues. This treatment will ensure that your skin will be plump and supple, with a lustrous glow. Your soon-to-be S.O. won’t be able to take their eyes off you. See results in 3-4 weeks, or up to 3 months for more intensive treatments.
- O2 Lift Facial — Imagine releasing fresh, healthy skin hidden below layers of older skin cells with a process that’s both gentle and invigorating. Using oxygen, plant-derived stem cells, peptides and specially concentrated enzymatic botanicals, O2 LIFT delivers a premium spa experience with immediate results. This anti-aging, luxurious spa treatment produces gorgeous luminous skin that feels as healthy as it is radiant.
- Vit C Brightening Facial — helps to fight premature ageing caused by stress and lifestyle, it visibly restores the skin’s firmness, luminosity & youthfulness. With pure Vitamin C to brighten dull skin and increase hydration, this is a perfect facial before an event or for brides to be.
- Facial Peels — there’s a variety to choose from to slough off the old and dull layer and reveal the smooth, rosy and glowing skin underneath — Glow Facial, Lift Peels, Lightening Peels, Acne Peels and Anti-ageing Peels. Your Temple Skin Expert will be happy to write a skincare plan for you that includes the right chemical peel and exfoliation suited for you.
- Fat Freezing — Freeze stubborn pockets of fat that you can not seem to get rid of even with spending hours at the gym. The great thing about Fat Freezing or Cryolipolysis is that there is virtually no down time and you can expect a leaner, more toned shape. Continue to eat healthily, stay active and support your body goals with some Fat Freezing.

Don’t Stress
Stress can manifest very quickly on your skin in the form of rashes, inflammation or breakouts. Stress triggers a chemical response in your body that can inhibit skin problems from healing, causing more havoc. When you are dealing with too much on your plate, there’s a tendency to skip your regular skincare routine and this will only make matters worse.
Always find some time for self-care. Take a deep breath, centre yourself and rest the mind by doing something you love. Whether this means listening or singing along to your fave playlist. Or maybe you like bushwalking. How about a relaxing bath with some tea? When things begin to be too much, seek some solitude and refuge with a Temple Body Ritual. Getting a massage is a great way to relieve stress but can also uplift your mood and even boost your immune system.
Read more about the Benefits of Massage here.
Don’t Lose Sleep
The skin, and your body for that matter, can only repair itself best when you are asleep. Fewer breakouts, brighter eyes, even skin tone and less puffiness are only some of the benefits you can take pleasure in on your journey to wedded bliss!
Sleep — along with good diet and exercise — is now considered the third pillar of health. While we sleep, our bodies get busy regenerating cells for our skin, muscles, hair and so on. Our brain repairs and reorganises itself. And, the slow, relaxed breathing while asleep also helps in calming the nervous system and reduces stress. Less stress means lowered production of cortisol, too. This is the fight-or-flight hormone that tells our bodies to hang on to every ounce of fat to survive.
Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night will allow you to reap the full benefits.

Do Detox to Glow from within
Start green-juicing or nourish your gut with fermented food like yoghurt, kombucha, or kimchi. Bone broth is also a collagen and antioxidant-rich food to add to your diet. Your gut also affects your skin, so maintaining a healthy gut microbiome is key to glowing skin on the day of your wedding. Skin Omegas such as the nutrient we get from fish oil also supports healthy skin from the inside. Omegas are a powerful source of hydration and the skin’s luminous glow.
Aside from this you can add a step to your shower or bath routine and start dry-brushing. This yields major skin benefits, including exfoliation and increased blood circulation (i.e. a healthy glow). From an overall wellness standpoint, it also revs up the flow of lymph, the all-important fluid that whisks toxins out of our systems.
Book a Temple Dr Wraps detox session once a month or so to help recover from skin imperfections by promoting blood and lymph circulation and metabolism.

On your Wedding Day
Remember to put together a bag with all of the necessities for last minute fixes and touch ups. Things like dental floss, hair pins, extra earing backs, tissues, tweezers, mini concealer, the Image Ormedic Sheer Pink Lip Enhancement Complex for fuller shinier lips that can be blended with your special wedding lippy, safety pins, breath mints and a bottle of water are always a great idea.
And that’s it! What’s left is for you to relax, smile and enjoy every moment of the start of a lifetime with your best friend…
Can HIFU make you look old? Read on to find out whether HIFU facial treatments cause more harm than good.
HIFU (High-intensity Focused Ultrasound) uses focussed beams of sound to pinpoint exact depths in the skin where tiny holes are created that tighten the skin when they heal (all pain free, we promise!)
Usually one can progressively see results up to 4 months but some up to 6 months. For most clients, even during the initial treatment, they are able to notice and enjoy the difference post-treatment. HIFU can:
- tighten the skin on the neck
- reduce the appearance of jowls
- lift drooping eyelids or eyebrows
- smooth wrinkles on the face
- smooth and tighten chest skin
HIFU is for ageing skins and yes, you can be too young to even need this treatment. It would be best to invest on more appropriate medispa facials that can address your specific skin goals.
Can HIFU make you look old?
Well the short answer is YES if it is performed by an inexperienced therapist or a cheap device! Eeekkk that’s a scary thought but it’s absolutely true… here is why:
HIFU is a non ablative and non invasive, way of stimulating collagen production and tightening the SMAS (Superficial Musculopaponeurotic System), a.k.a the muscles of the face where the surgeons operate in a face lift. It is gentle and effective, hence an extremely popular choice for lifting and global anti-ageing results. Don’t be fooled by the way the surface of the skin remains seemingly unaffected, there is a lot of stimulation that happens in the deeper layers with this treatment.
The results we obtain at The Temple Skincare & Spa are amazing for tightening loose jowls, ageing necks, double chin, as well as lifting cheeks and eyes.
However, when in the hands of therapists with minimal experience and little understanding of the anatomy of the skin, there is definitely a risk that these treatments can decrease the youthful fatty deposits in your cheeks, for example, that keep you looking young and plump.
The expert therapist and consultation is key to the results you achieve in a safe and effective manner at Temple. The HIFU machines can treat multiple depths within the skin. Generally, treating at 4.5mm depth will treat to tighten the muscles (SMAS) of a slackening drooping skin, treating at 3mm will create new collagen and elastin in the lower Dermis layer, whilst treating at 1.5mm stimulates new cell turnover, tightens the very surface and boosts collagen in the upper Dermis.
Each treatment is tailored to the specific client’s concern, skin density and fat deposits. As professional and senior therapists at Temple, We will assess these three key aspects in a thorough consultation before proceeding with the treatment.
As you can imagine, if your therapist was to treat a skin that was thin and sallow and lacked fatty deposits in the cheeks area with a 4.5mm depth this could break down any fat that was remaining there and possibly cause you to look older… so yes HIFU ‘could’ make you look older if performed by the wrong therapist. You are in safe hands at The Temple Skincare & Spa as we have the three ingredients you need for a safe and effective result: Consultation is key + Experienced senior therapists + Top quality devices.

Highly trained and capable
At Temple Skincare & Spa and and with the particular model of in-motion HIFU equipment that we use, there is no risk of developing adverse reactions. Our therapists are also highly trained to perform HIFU on various skin types and for a number of different modalities.
In fact, Our medispa therapists have been trained in HIFU by Dr Gregoris Stavrou of Biotec Italia, a respected nano-scientist and international lecturer for multiple medispa devices. The training involves extensive theory and practical applications before we are allowed to work on supervised models until the required standards are met. Only then are our medispa therapists authorised to provide the service to our clients. Before we even conduct a HIFU treatment, we make sure to assess and examine your skin to ensure that HIFU is right for you.
